I was thinking of getting my father a parts washer for his garage for Christmas. He would just be fixing his ATVs, lawnmower, weedeater, etc. and stuff like that with the occasional piece off a tractor. Also the reviews of the solutions don't seem good at all. Right now he is using some gas and a bucket. Not sure if this will be up to the job ....

For solution I've always used diesel fuel with a touch of kerosene, always worked great for me.

We just used kerosene through ours. This was good for 90% of what we did.

could always go the expensive route and get a safety clean part washer with their solvent....

isnt the brush on the hose kind of a nessecity? i dont see one on the unit your looking at buying...maybe zep or safety kleen would sell you the brush and hose for cheap

I do this as a job use mineral spirits.I change out mineral spirits on parts washers all day long.

These are the kind i service all day long i haul the barrels 16gal and 20gal barrels with mineral spirits and swap them out.Yes you will want one with a brush

mineral spirits??? i've never heard that before.
What do they clean with them?

They clean anything.Goto your local garage and check out there parts washer it will have mineral spirits(liquid naptha) in it
