Hey, I'm gettin a new cam and piston, (hotcams stage2) and I was wondering which piston I should get for pump gas. I heard 11:1 is the max for pump gas and I know wiseco makes a kit for that, but is that too much and should I get like a JE 10.5:1 or Ross 10.6:1 ? which is safest, because I do lots of climbing and stuff so maybe the 11:1 will generate to much heat? not sure.... any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Layne

any of the 3 u listed would work great . i know from experience that the hotcams stage 2 and the wiseco 11:1 work real good together . and it runs on pump gas no problem

i would get a JE 10.8:1 or 11:1 because i hear a lot about wiseco pistons compression ratios being wrong. there is somebody on here who has a Wiseco 11:1 piston that is really 9.6:1. ross is a lighter piston, so it will rev quicker but have less torque. you can run pump gas with anything up to 11:1. and you will probably not have any problems with over heating.

You are correct about the lighter piston (ROSS) revving faster, but it making less torque is incorrect. The only disadvantage of having a light piston is that it will stall easier at low RPM because of less reciprocating mass. All that means is when using a lighter piston and drag racing, you'll have to launch using a higher RPM.

which can alos be corrected by a flywheel weight

there is ALMOST nothing wrong with lighter piston

when engine internals are lighter it means the motor makes more power not less.

when you are at 9k rpm it means your piston is moving up and down in the cylinder like a 100 times a second, i gram turns into about 150lbs so a lighter piston can only do you good, not bad

lets see at 60 rpm it goes up and down 1 a sec, so 600 is 10 a sec 6000 is 100 a sec, there so 900 is 150, i was right

but is it doubled because it is a 4 stroke and 1 rpm is 2 stokes, wait no it still counts as 1 rpm, cause it has to make 2 rpm to make a complete CYcLE, now i got it

my r6 was 15,5rpm redline thats 250 times a sec, HOT DAMNNNNNNNNN

some gp bikes redline in the 22-25k range HOLY SHIZ BOMB, thats soem crazy stuff, and you wonded why they want you to change the oil

THe Wiseco is the lightest of the pistons, Then Ross, then JE is the heaviest,

I would use either the Ross or the JE. either the JE 10.8:1 or the ROSS 10.8:1. I like to use either of these pistons they have both have worked very well for me and I feel they are a higher quality performance piston than the wiseco. I also have use up to a 11:1 piston on pump gas but I do feel you are safer using some higher octane fuel mixed with that.

Allright, I'll probably get the JE or the Ross piston, seems the wiseco isn't the favourite around here. but thats fine with me.
Thanks

get a SPARKs piston they are custom JEs
they are trickkkkkkkk
but more expensive
but the are trickkkkk

Actually, Wiseco is the heaviest. Ross is lightest and JE is the second lightest.

what's so special about the Sparks/JE piston?

have you ever seen the piston he use's in the 465 kits? Let me tell you its a thing of beauty!!!!!!!!!
It a 92mm, 13/1 comp. Work of art when you look at it reminds me of thekind of piston they put in a 6second race car, the aluminum is top off the line, it has almos no side skirts, and it is extremly light.

the bad news the piston is 200$ with no other higher bore sizes on that kit, in other words i have to resleave it every time its wears outttttttt
buy the way the sleave is 100$ this is our second piston so far and worth every penny of it no kidding

I would look into their 416 & 426 kits

i wont buy wiseco anymore. i had to many problems. but a few of the problems were my fault.

forged/bllet pistons will expand more in heat
cast pistons will expand less and be a better fit

In my 250r i went through 2 wiseco pistons then i went with pro x and never looked back
