400ex's are FASTER then Scrambler 500's, and much sportier/stiffly sprung.

If the 500's too much for him, he should be looking for something full utility, not a sport quad.

Scrambler 500 2wd 2stroke?... or is that the 400?....
Last time I rode the 2 stroke model I thought it was pretty quick on the top end. It was all stock too

IMO, Scramblers are tanks! Hard to on bumpy trails at high speed. Too big of a quad... built more like a tractor (just a heads up for potential traders)

Yeah, I think it would be better for him to either sell locally, or trade in towards a nice utility. My neighbor bought an '06 Arctic Cat 400 for like $2300 off of craigslist a few months ago.

I hate to say it but for trail riding the Polaris feels like a Cadillac compared to a Honda! Particularly that year too because it had the higher end Fox piggy back on the rear. They're not for the aggressive rider but if I was pushing 50yrs the 400ex would be one of the last machine I would want to get on. The suspension is garbage for an easy rider. I think he's making a big mistake with wanting to trade this direction.
