ok i am just tryin to figure out what i wanna ride for next season. I was on a ktm this year but had some bad luck wit it. So I have been looking at the ltr 450's or yfz 450's. I know about the 3rd gear problem. Is there anything else that goes wrong with them? What are sum of the set-ups people are using for xc racing? or would the yamaha be the better one for xc racing? thanks

Chris Borich did really well on a LTR but with the YFZ450X coming out there is very little you would need to do to that quad to get it ready for XC.

If you can find a leftover 08 LTR450 (which you can easily!) for a good price (which you can easily!) then that would be a good idea!

Check out this article here, there are some good ideas:

IMO get some XC wheels/tires, killswitch, nerfs, Billet 3rd gear (a MUST), Yoshi full exhaust system, and some other minor things and you'd be good to go! The stock shocks work well IMO when properly adjusted.

Obviously you could get the whole motor built, shorter A-Arms, and a new suspension set-up... but you don't really need that!

mine is on mx razrs and it still rides and handles really good through the woods. i think with xc tires it would be a pretty darn good quad in the trails for bein stock suspension
