2005 Crank problem!!!

Well got back into a 450r with the common crank failure problem so now I need to rebuild it I am wondering exactly what I need to replace? Should I go oem honda or aftermarket? If I go oem what is to say this won't happen again... Can anyone tell me exactly the parts I need to order and part numbers is a plus... I appreciate the help. thanks

First you need to dig into the engine, and see exactly what will be needed. Then a budget $, what do you want to get out of this build. How BIG and BAD do you want to go? That's the questions I ask myself. :ermm:

when mine goes, I plan on doing it all out, that is if mine goes when I own the quad.

I will keep mine on pump gas and I have always wanted to go with a BALANCED hot rods +3 and a 12.5:1 piston. Should be tame and match what I already have. Remember, you dont wanna just go through and not do what you want to do.

I want to do it right but probably leave it close to stock for reliability reasons...

Then I would stay with OEM crank and bearings. Install a 12 or 12.5:1 aftermarket piston and a HC2 cam. If the budget warrants, throw a FCR carb on her. Very nice improvements! :macho

I have a USED but still good stock crank for 04/05 If you need one. 45+shipping, its sitting in a box taking up space on my shelf.

I am thinking of going hotrods oem crank and a 12.5 piston and rings I already have aftermarket cam... is hotrods a good oem replacement.. it will be balanced b4 install

well i ordered a hotrods oem crank and a 12:1 cp piston... the thing that sucks is i called my dealer today to see when it is coming in and he told me they took all there cranks back to the shop to fix the pin problem so i prob wont get one till like a couple weeks to a month...pretty gay and the stock updated is on back order...

i'm in the same situation. as soon as the cranks hows up my motor will be done! their saying it will be there by friday.

I don't believe there are any available. Until HR releases the updated crank, nobody will have them.:ermm:

nope none are available.... they took them all back...to put a new pin in then or something... but they said they were almost done... giving my dealer a call when they are shipping it to him.. so ill keep posted..

lol ya it does... i ordered mine about a week or 2 ago and im prob gonna be waiting for a bit for it to come in... wanted to atleast get one more ride in but prob not...i have everything else for the motor beside the crank and bearrings.... but hey think of it this way... your getting a stronger crank and more reliable one i hope lol..

do you think they would give me a core charge i have a 05 hotrods crank but it went bad after about 9 tanks of gas i just tore it down last weekend
