View Full Version : Quick question about front motor mounts

Can I take the front two motor mounts out temporarily and leave the engine in the frame? The swingarm bolt is out already, so if I removed the front motor mounts, the only thing holding the motor in the frame would be the lower motor mount and the upper motor mount on the valve cover.

I just don't want to stress anything if I take them out. So is it ok to just have the motor in there with just the upper/lower mounts?

I'm going to the powdercoater/stripper tomorrow and I want to have the front motor mounts coated, but I don't have time to take out the whole engine yet.

Thanks!

yep, no worries. most of the weight will just sit on the lower mount.

Hey Pipeless, hows your rebuild coming along?

Here's what I got so far. My first time stripping it down to the frame. Almost there.

lookin good so far! mines at about the same point minus the gussets. the frame will be picked up from having it blasted tomorrow im guessing. i wanted to be able to check for cracks, and the black paint makes that difficult. the scary part is that parts are going to be floating around the garage till thanksgiving break.. hopefully they stay in one place :p what color did you decide to go with? heres how mine sits.. it looks like this more often than not haha.

lol, nice parts pile man. Looks like you're coming along well. I have all my junk in like 4 different places in the garage, just putting stuff wherever I can find a spot. I'm trying to keep things as simple as possible by leaving things as assemblies where I can instead of taking everything apart. Just want to get this thing done as fast as possible, I hate working on it on and off because of my damn work schedule :p

Yea, i'm taking everything to the blasters today, then i'm taking it back to the welder so he can check for cracks and go over his welds again. Then it's back for PC and I can get the ball rolling again :D

I do believe i'm having the frame and sub done in Tiger Drylac Extreme Chrome. It's not a color you see everyday, plus I think it will look pretty clean with the current color scheme without getting too out there. Should go nicely with this recent acquisition I just had Pappy do in candy to match the front end

Here's the chrome

i had everything done except for the actual frame.. i still can't decide between white and semi gloss black!!!.. both with metal flake. lol decisions. that swinger looks awesome nacs! the chrome pc will definitely be unique and it will flow extremely well with your current colors. good choice. i can't wait to see it done.

Hey thanks man, same to you, keep us posted! The black would look good with your colors, but is pretty much the same as what you already had. White's definitely different, and looks good with red IMO. Can't go wrong either way but black's more of a "safe" color I guess....kinda blends in and looks clean. White is a little more adventurous and adds extra flare. Just depends on the type of look you are going for.

Thanks man, thought you'd like that one haha :p

I appreciate the offer, but I already have a huge stack of those stickers lol. When I got the swinger used, it had a lobo decal with a clear background...I really liked that one. I called up Roll to get another one but they told me they don't make them anymore. Here's how it came: http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/uu289/nacsmxer/DSC_0380.jpg

So I got creative with a razor blade and came up with this instead, works for me! :D

i don't really want to steal your thread, but here's where i'm at as of today.

freshly blasted frame.. no cracks! :muscle:

i printed off a picture of your frame after the gussets were put in and brought it with me to the shop :p . back to the powdercoater tomorrow! im guessing i'll be making an "on the spot" call on the color tomorrow.. i kind of want to go with the white just to do something a little different. i also really liked the looks of Rootar's white framed EX. i'll probably still go with black just because its much easier to keep clean. again, sorry for stealing the thread nacs!

Nah, go right ahead! That looks good. I guess it's gusset time now? What kit are you going with, or are you making them yourself? I went with a Bare kit off Ebay, it fit pretty well.

I just dropped mine off at the sandblasters, i'm having it done at that RA Adams trailer place off of 120 in Mchenry. Their labor rate is 150 an hour...outrageous! But my powder guy told me it's one of the only places in the area that does this.

Pipeless416
10-21-2009, 03:47 PM
i already made my own gussets in a few of the places. Adams is 5 minutes from my house lol. $150 an hour is ridiculous! i'm paying $100 for the blasting and the pc lol. here's the only gussets i have put in. they took me about 20 minutes to cut out of scrap steel and then another half hour to weld in. i hope you get yours back together before mine!!

Just got it down to the frame the other day. New frame has been blasted and is at the powder coater. I wasn't happy how the Tiger Drylac chrome sample came out...it turned into a dull gray when cleared. So I ordered a different chrome powder by Caswell Plating. It should arrive here tomorrow and i'll drop it off at the coater's.

Meanwhile the best I can do is sit, wait, and give all my parts a good cleaning :macho

My 2000 frame that I tried to keep cherry :ermm:
