shouldnt be to bad. i would say 35 bucks. be sure to pack the motor GOOD!!!!!! I got a motor one time that was thrown in a normal single walled box with one layer of bubble wrap. It made it but there was some damage.

im going to put it in one of those plastic bins and surround it with cardboard and wire tie the lid on.

Use some sturdy card board and line the inside of the container good. I use zip ties to seal the lid shut. Take the oil drain plug off. If the container takes a drop then it may bust the bottom of the cases. Seen it done. Have never had any problems other wise.

Use LOTS of foam.

Wrap the motor in a tight plastic bag and taped up good then fill the tub full of peanuts (cheap) and it won't budge.

Also, don't rely on zip ties to keep the lid closed. Double wrap it in that fibre packing tape - it's virtually impossible to break without a sharp knife.

However since it's only 3.5 hours away I wouldn't worry too much since as soon as it's loaded on the truck it will be delivered the same day.

$35 is all it should cost if you don't have to buy the plastic container.

This is pretty much what I do..I buy a rubber maid tub from wal-mart, fill the bottom 1/4 with peanuts then set the engine in and put a ton of peanut around it,on top of it and then tape and double tape the lid on...I have shipped about 15 250r engines this way and it works like a champ. The shipping weight will be right around 60lb's.

I've seen many shipped in old igloo coolers. Obviously, all of the wrapping and tape still apply, but if you have troubles locating a tub, a cooler is another option. FWIW

Do they ever charge extra for not being in a box? Do they allow you to put insurance on it?

I have a motor to ship and was going to build a box but might do this.

I always use igloo cube coolers when i ship engines out and always recommend others to use them when shipping them to me. Still fill it with packing so its not gonna move at all. The cooler has a couple inches or so of protection with the insulation/foam in between the plastic shell which helps protect the engine ALOT.

Hey, this is where I got the zip tie info at... I used to ship motors per CT's instructions in the early 90's with no problems. But I do like the cooler idea!

Also, take a picture of your "package" for UPS. When they tear it up you have some pics to show them if you have a claim.

jrspawn,.... How do you recommend fastening lid shut on the cooler? I don't trust just tape especially shipping during hot summer months.

maybe this should be a sticky for motor shipping instructions...

I agree. I'd also be interested in common methods for other things too, for instance a frame etc...
