wiring harness ?

i have a 1986 atc motor in my trx250r.the wiring harness has HA2 (CF502) on the cdi box plug and has 4 barrel connecters and 1 plug coming out of the stator.i am going to but a 1988 trx motor in,will i need to change anything or will this harness work ok on my 88 trx motor? thanks

you should be ok with hooking up the 88 engine to it but to be on the safe side, compare the wiring with with corresponding wiring diagrams from each year. i too have the atc engine setup in my quad and also have the atc cdi that i integrated to my trx harness. as stated, make sure you read and understand the wiring diagrams for the applications. hope this helps. :cool:

85 and 86 atc motors will work in any trx250r chassis. The trx wiring works too. The only difference between 85-88 and 89 stators is the connectors. For some reason 89's had different stator connections. 86 atc and 86-89 cdi's connect the same. 85 atc's had a round plug.

good info deathman. i wasnt aware of all that. i'd only ever really dealt with mostly atc '85 on trx applications. :)

do you guys recommend me putting my 86 atc stator in my 88 trx motor?i don't have the motor yet,i will be picking the motor up this week.if the connectors are the same on the trx stator wiring,as my atc motor i will give it a try without swapping stators.thanks for the help!

the 85-88 stator is exactly the same, other than connectors its exactly the same as 89, I sure would use the 86 stator.
