I just bought a 1986 Mojave for my little girl to ride around... it hasnt been run in a couple years .

I know it needs a new battery,
and I plan to drain the gas and put in new.
Probably put in a new spark plug.
and looks like it needs an air filter too.

I think I better change the oil .
for the oil change is it just, pull the plug. and refill from the dipstick (says 1.1 liter) so I assume thats the oild capacity?
will mobil one 10-40 automtive oil be good ? (I have cases)
Is there any type of oil filter at all?

and what about the trans ? how do you change its fluid ?

I appretiate any help, anyone have a manual for this ?

Sorry I know Automobiles, not bikes :(

Well I got it running.

Changed the filthy old oil and just used Mobil 1 10-40 synthetic
if this is BAD please let me know ASAP.

New battery, new gas, fixed one of the in tank filters that had come loose. Changed oil.

Its running good, and no smoke.
It does need to be choked every time to start and it wont idle on its own.

The crusty filthy filter needs to be replaced. I think if I try to wash it, it will fall apart in my hands.
Once a new filter in in place, if it still doesnt idle I'll try adjusting the carb.

So where is the best place to buy a filter ?
And is the Mobil one 10-40 oil OK to use ?

watch the tranny gears in the mojave - they tend to fall apart during normal use.

I got a Uni air filter for it. and its running really good.

She rode it in the desert all day Sunday, with me following behind in my polaris Ranger.

It doesnt need to be choked everytime to start anymore. The idle is still a little iffy. sometime too high sometimes too low. so its probably a little gummed up in the carb still. I imagine after a couple tanks of gas run through it that should straighten out on its own.

My daughter is a little too big for it, but it will be good to learn on, then I'll sell it, and step her up to something bigger in a few months.
