I have a stock 400ex shock that was redone by pep but im looking for an axis rear to replace it. The shock measures 15 1/2 inches that is on the quad now (stock one), should i just look for an axis shock that is 15 1/2 inches or should/could it be a different length? The fronts are axis hi/low speed long travel and measure 18 1/2 inches. Also the axis shock can come off of either a 400ex or 450r correct? Somebody help me out any info. would be appreciated. thanks

Pretty sure their not interchangeable between the 450/400 unless you mod some things.

A 400EX Axis shock should be a cheap easy find.

what about the length of the shock? Does it have to be 15 1/2 inches?

If you want more travel, then look Into a different linkage setup along with a longer shock. A 04-05 450r shock should bolt onto your linkage, but the geometry Is not the same. Axis shocks are VERY adjustable, so one setup for a 450r might still be better than what you have once It Is dialed In. If not Axis will re-valve It for your weight & riding style. I suggest you find out what linkage you need to gain travel, then figure out what length shock you need so you don't waist your money on a shock thats to short.

about to years ago a friend of mine and my engine builder did an experiment. he had a 400ex framed crf with "i think" a lonestar swingarm, ad they put a jb or gt thunder link off a 450r and a axis off a 450r. i think it worked pretty well but he sold it shortly after. but it hung down really low.
