After twisting my ankle a couple days ago I've decided that my rubber hunting boots just don't cut it for aggressive riding.

Wondering how many of you guys wear proper foot/leg protection in the form of motocross boots and what brand?

Thanks.

I've used Alpinestars for years. In my opinion they're the industry standard.

My wife bought me my first pair of boots last Christmas. They are the cheaper ones, don't remember the brand but were like 80 bucks. Stiffer than crap!!! I like riding in boots, getting old and I don't heal like I used too. ah, just remembered they are the A.R.C. Corona ones. After I got these I realize I like riding boots alot but now I want the shorty versions.

These are the ones I have: http://www.rockymountainatv.com/productDetail.do?&navType=type&webTypeId=27&navTitle=Boots-Footwear&webCatId=3&prodFamilyId=16222

I want to try these now:

Thor Quadrants.... My wife, daughter, and I. No problems with them, and they are cheap, so I don't feel bad beating on them. Loctite the screws that hold the straps and they will last forever. Had mine four years.

Alpinestars. Just my personal opinion, but I have found nothing better.

I have fox comp 5 boots, they were around $150 but the quality is really good, shifting is no problem. They are actually quite comfortable too.

I also have the fox comp 5. They are super comfortable. The bottom latch on the right boot broke on mine and my buddys boots.

i have a stiff *** set of thor boots that i used once, no way i can shift in them. i have been using regular work boots but starting looking into shorty boots...mainly the comps from fox or the tech 2s from alpinestar

I have comp 5 boots too, one latch ripped off and some stitching broke. They also developed a leak in the sole-boot seal. Great boots, just wish they lasted longer.

first pair was alpine star, loved them but out grew them

bought a pair of fox trackers (protection with very little comfort)

now I have fox comp 5 (first pair of white boots and I cant believe how much cooler they keep my feet)

riding boots have saved me enough times I wont ride without

I have alpinestar Tech 4's. It took awhile to get used to themand break them in, but I won't go back to work boots. I wore out the soles on my IMS pegs in two years. ( I don't ride that much either). I replaced the soles with Tech 8 soles. They are holding up so far. I've heard the Sidi and Gearne boots are much better.

I use Alpinestars Tech 4's s well. b far the most comfortable boot i tried on under about 350 bucks. the only boots the were more comfortable were the sidi crossfires and gaerne sg-10 i think it was. Alot of times i forget i have them on even after we are done riding and building a fire or bbq'ing. i worked in a dealership and tried on just about everything from the thors, sidis, alpines, foxs, fly, and gaernes. i bought them about 2 1/2 - 3 years ago. its too bad they dropped them for the Tech 3's. the new tech 3's arent as comfortable. the only downside is the sole isnt replaceable. like others have said, boots have saved my ankles enough times i wont ride without them. they are the 3rd most important piece of safety equipment IMO behind helmets and goggles.

as a side note anyone with a 250R should own and wear boots just to start their bike. having that forward kickstarter come back and smack your shin is the worst.:eek2:

So when sizing a pair of riding boots do you all go with same size of a 'normal' boot or size smaller/bigger?

red88r
10-14-2009, 09:32 PM
I have always bought the same size as my shoes/boots and never had a problem. If you can I would try them on before you buy them. I have Thor Quadrants for years of racing and practicing-pretty good for the money I think.

My brother sports the Gaerne SG12's, he claims they fit like glove. I really like them, however they look like moon boots. Don't get me wrong, I was almost going to get a pair of them. I personally sport a pair of Fox Pro Formas and they too feel very nice, a lot better than the Alpinestars I sported for a couple seasons. The only thing was the A-stars were the Tech 4's, pretty basic.

Hope this helps. My suggestion would be to order from RMATV or go to a shop where you can try them and see how they feel. Their just like a pair of shoes, some feel good and others don't. Not everyone has the same shaped feet.

Good luck with the buy, I will never ride aggressively without them. The ankle support and safety they provide is a no-brainer.

if you consistently wear a full size (10, 11, 12, etc.) you could probably order that size and be ok. if you wear a half size (10.5, 11.5, 12.5, etc.) order the next size up since boots only come in full sizes or euro sizes. you can always wear a thicker sock but you cant make your foot smaller. like the others said, trying them on is always best though.

A-stars has many affordable different boot options. All are top quality.

Also look into Gaerne's or SixSixOne's.

I wear full moto gear whether I am racing or not, on a 50 or a 450...

tech 8's here. won't even kick start the R w/out them on.

(I can kick start my YZ400F in work boots, but not the R, that ol' 295cc will put a hurting on some soft bottom shoes! )

I just ordered alpinestar no slip trials boots, $290, the sole is almost like a atv sole and its replaceable. Lets hope this lasts longer w/o sole wearing out or stuff ripping.

Yeah, for sportbike boots I would go with Sidi, maybe Alpinestars... Joe Rocket would be better though.

Offroad where things get beaten on by the elements I want my boots cheap and durable. $90 for Quadrants is a great deal.

SIDI Crossfire. The best I've ever owned. Comfortable, easy to ride, shift AND wear. Durable as heck, and rebuildable. WELL worth the money in my opinion

I also wear the Thor 50/50 boots when I'm just playing in the yard or something. Very comfortable. Heck I wear em to town sometimes haha

I ride with some older Alpines and they have been great.

I might ride down the street for just a minute in regular shoes or load up the atvs like that, but I will not ride with out good boots on.

If you get new boots and they are to stiff, get some sort of a leather conditioner and soak them down with it. Then just wear them around the house and they will break in real nice. Then you will not have any shifting problems.

I have looked at those shorty boot and have thought about getting some but then I thought about not having the protection of a full boot so I passed.

short boots are a definantly a compromise between comfort and protection

much like performance parts is to reliability

If I'm trail riding, I'll wear my AXO Slammers. They work awesome with Thor Static Pants and are great for just riding around on. If I'm MXing, I'll throw on the Thor Quadrants for more support and protection.

SAUL, those look like Thor Quadrants.

Had a pair Thor Quadrant, they lasted two years, mainly because the sole came apart just in front of the heel from kick starting the R. Comfort was decent although I had to go +1 on size for my wide foot.

Now I have a pair of Fox F3's that have a about a season or so on them. They are slightly more comfortable, look better but the freaking buckles won't stay snapped while riding. This is unacceptable.

I have a pair of Fox Alta boots I bought in 97 that I still wear.

HAYES - it must be a problem with fox buckles in general cuz that was always a problem with the Trackers as well
