kickstarter problem

when i kick start my trx250r,every once in a while the kicker just slams down when i try to kick start it.it is almost like it is not engaging.the problem is very random,and dosn't always happen.anyone have any idea why it does this? thanks

something is worn on the kicker mecanism. its not allowing the throw gear to fully engage into the flywheel. it also could be contributed to an excessive play in the clutch basket bearings. i'd pull the clutch cover and do an inspection of everything in that area.
