i recently bought a 400 with the 426 big bore and it smokes a little, probably coming from the head since its all stock valvetrain. I dont want to go much bigger when i do the rebuild since alot of people on here say that you dont really gain anything going bigger than that. But my question is where can i get a piston thats only .020 bigger than the 426, im also going to go through the head and replace valves, springs, guides and seals and was wondering what the best route was for that..thanks

You resleave your stock cylinder,resleave with a bigger 440 sleave, buy a stock cylinder, or buy a 440 cylinder. The stock cylinder is probably the cheapest of your options. The two last options are on Ebay.

I'd think It'd be cheaper than a $300

$70 for a sleeve, $100 to press it in, $60 to bore it. And then hope they did a perfect job.

most do a decent job, you can try going to a local machine shop and asking around about someone who they would recommend, i got lucky when i had mine done, i go to a tech school for half a day and then go back to regular high school for the rest of the day, but it turns out that my shop teacher in tech school knows a professional engine builder and it turns out to be one of the best in the north east, he bored honed and ported and polished my engine for free since him and my shop teacher are good friends =)
