painting my nerf bars

hey guys i have been doing alot of repainting and i have been using dupli color gloss balck engine enamel on my a-arms, axel ,and foot pegs and other small accessories


i just repainted my wheels with dupli color black wheel and axel paint and 2 coats of clear coat

which of the 2 paints should i use on my nerf bars??

some people say to use some etching primer to make the paint stick better. i used it on my rims but i havent rode it yet. and i would use the wheel paint and then clear. but it will scuff easy since is nerfs. but retouch is easy. im just going to polish mine this winter and some other stuff.

Use the cheep stuff $.99 a can: and keep a can handy if you paint the nerfs, cuz you'll be touching them up all the time. Easy to do though.

They might do better powder coated.

I've used the duplicolor engine enamel on exhaust shields with good results.

Not sure how it or the wheel paint would hold up on contact items?

Myself, I used Rustoleum bedliner spray on some wheels.

It has held up real well to some harsh riding. Better than I expected, and better in this harsher service than the other spray bedliners have held up for me in less abusive service. It's not still perfect, but only has small places at the very bead edge of the rims.

It's textured, so it will touch up and hide nicely.
However, the texture makes it hard to clean if you want to get everything spotless.

I have not checked back to see if they have released a smooth version yet.

dont paint the nerf bars just polish them, theyll look like crap after every ride through the woods.

Honda01 dont mean to jack your thread but pipeless to put that hood on did you just take the first gen plastics and hack off where the key and neutral light go then mount it? Looks sweet.

I was asked to post up some pics of the rims I painted.

So I am going to do that, but first I am also going to show-n-tell my retarded easy methods....

1- clean them really really well.

2- scrub with scotchbrite

3- shoot with etching primer if painting

4- Prime or don't for bedliner (evaluating results)



And the retarded easy method for doing it is take the valve cores out and steal the deck of UNO cards from the house.

Wedge the cards down into the bead area and overlap... hit one side at a time.

Mask with tape if you like, but it's not needed as you can see.

I honestly started on the cardboard.

But I ended up just rolling them around as I sprayed.

These pictured are 20x11-10.
So the UNO cards will not contact on any one you do.

im always riding rough conditions and my bars are constantly getting hit by somthing to i painted them with herculiner. i took fine mesh and got all the rubber peces out that are supposed to give it texture so it was just a paste. so now its durable and still has a gloss. and my 20hp pressure washer isnt enough to take it off so if that cant idk what can.

probably do but i needed it kinda on short notice and had no time to wait for a shipping order to come in, and this stuff was pretty cheap at 20 bucks for a regular size paint can. i believe they also make different colors than just black

I'm curious to see how those painted wheels hold up. I'm debating on whether to get my wheels powder coated, or to just try and spray them myself.
