View Full Version : Got some rather bad news today

My Mom just told me she has Cancer. This was a total shocker!
Anyone heard of tongue cancer before? At first she thought she had a form of thrush in her mouth,the Dr. thought the same and gave her meds for it, but when her throat started to hurt and the sore on her toungue got bigger, they took a chunk of it off to test and found it was tongue cancer.
Shes never smoke a day in her life(well.. she was born in the 60's so I know she experimented lol) but never cigarettes..I also read that hard drinkers is linked to it as well but shes never been a hard boozer either.
She has to have part of her tongue removed and her lymph nodes I think? Having your tongue cut out has got to hurt! Also checking her lungs and basically how far the Cancer has spread.

Ive never heard of this type on cancer so I thought Id ask .

Wow QJ, I hope for a full recovery for her! She'll be in my prayers.

I have heard of it before. In fact I heard about it a few months ago on the TV show The Doctors .

Some celebrity cooking chef had/has it. If caught in time it is completly cureable. The chef had been diagnosed with it years prior, had the surgery and is doing just fine.

I'll try and find the chef's name and post it here for you.

It's wasn't on The Doctors ... it was on Oprah ... it's one of her personal chefs... famous chef from Chicago.

And don't laugh ... I sometimes watch Oprah :ermm:

Thank you for that link ! Thats reassurring to hear... the mortality rates I have been reading have not been good. We will know more next week hopefully as she is meeting with a Dr. who specializes in this field.
