what would cause air to blow back through the carb. reed valve? wrong piston/cylinder combination? i have a 86 piston, rod & crank and a 87 jug. no spacers on cylinder. i do have a reed spacer.

cracked reeds or broken reeds would cause air/fuel mixture to go back out through the filter instead of up on top of the piston through the transfers when the piston heads for bdc.

you have to have a cylinder spacer for that set-up, unless your head is milled which will make your port timing way off..

are you sure about that? 86 piston and rod? you need no spacer plate for that set up when using any year cylinder. its when the piston/rod years dont line up is when you need the spacer.

i had the reeds out to flip them and noticed they are chipped in one corner. i ordered new reeds. i'll see what that does for it. actually i noticed when i put it together. i thought they would still work.
