I am lost, i just got a basket case i guess you would say, Its an 01 400ex, the quad has spark, its getting gas,but it will not start
I recheck the timeing it is in time, If you pull start it will start right up, then after it gets warm,it will start everytime right up.

I dont get it,any idea

these engines are cold blooded. Im going to assume that everything is working the way it should, jetting is good and the engine is turning over ok, plus what you have said you checked. How old is your battery? you may be getting spark but if the battery is going bad you may not be getting enough spark when the starter starts drawing amps and its cold.

Have you checked the valve clearances

I second that...400ex's are very cold blooded. My 400ex had the same symptoms...spark at the plug, and would pull start just fine. If you don't have a strong battery or a personal "trick" to start it, it can be a real pisser- especially in the winter time. I've always heard that going one step bigger on the pilot jet would cure that, but what my trick was to crank the throttle open 3 times, choke on full, it would typically start right up.

I agree to check your valve clearances...get yourself a set of feeler gages from an auto parts store if you don't have them already, and a copy of the Honda service manual...I'm sure there's a free copy floating around here. It's very easy to do, and should be checked/adjusted anyways.

Are you sure it's a 400ex?

check valve clearance, and do a compression check.

he means bump start haha. also, make sure your battery is fully charged. mine is the same way when its been sitting for a while. i either have to bump start it or jump start. either way always works.
