What is everyones opinion on the shorty TC exhaust for the 450R? I found this one on the bay and the auction claims you do not have to rejet.

I've always wondered what's so good about having half an exhaust??

i think it's so if someone runs up the back of you your exhaust doesn't get smashed.... but they are to loud for my taste i like smooth exhaust tone not ear piercing :spelling:

Go with something else for sure, especially if you want to run any nationals and/or keep your local ride spots open.

No nationals, just the local mx scene which has a few guys running these exhausts.

Junk... I like the loud sound, but my buddy has one on his race bike, and I hate it. They don't make insane power compared to these other exhaust, which would be a reason to run it, and I can't loan him rear plastics if he needed. It melts them one ride. And rubs your boot or pants cause of the bend. Just very impractical. Def. go with the big 3!

very insanely loud, far as adding horse power. not really.. tc are not really known for adding hp as much as they do lowend torque. i had one on my 400ex and my midrange and lowend picked up alot. thats why these pipes are good for mx racing because of the grunt they give. talk to JR3 he has one on his yfz and ask him what he thinks of it. hes tried running several other brands of pipes and has always reverted back to his TC

I ran one on my Laeger's YZ426 hybrid, and it had some wicked bottom end.

These pipes were from the days of hybrids, and when guys did porting with hand tools... back in the good ol' days. Nowadays you have more options of companies building systems matched to go with computerized engine work.

Hell, does Tom Carlson still build engines these days? I am behind on the times...

I know it kind of slowed down when he teamed up w/ Suzuki...

I know he still builds wicked 300ex engines, but as far as the new 450s, I don't see many people with his engine work.

I have one of my 450r, id say that guys crazy if he dosnt think it requires jetting...

I do like the pipe, but my old 450r with a Sparks pipe ran better IMO.

For mx the tc shorty is a nice piece. It will give gobs of bottom and mid, but at the loss of top.

He deffinately still does build engines as I have one of his and it hauls very well for the amount of mods he has done to it. I also have his full size pipe its ok does the job but nothing amazingly special. I say dont cheap out and go get a dasa or sparks pipe though.

I hope he came good for the circlip installed wrong. He goes through my bottom end everytime he gets my motor and i've never had a problem with him.

Yes tom still builds motors he just did at least 3 in the past 6 months or so, all owned by people i know, and my good buds 450r is just about untouchable that he built at the drags, yes he has been beat by 1 or 2 others but they where 100% drag the one that beats him only weighs 240lbs wet with wheelie bar and all..
anyways tom is still in business and he knows his $hit!!!

yes i always reverted back to the tc but found a pipe i liked better and made more power on my yfz the n motion almost like a tc but not. Ive tried so many exhaust systems when i had my 400ex and my 450r i just always went back to the TC for the low end grunt and low end power it seemed to give with the right filter and jetting. plus i loved the look of the pipe also. heres a couple pics of the quads ive had it on.

This is true, Tom has been building my engines for like 5 years now. I got the holeshot in pro-am unlimited at the last tt race this year.
