does anyone know if all the parts to do a 416 conversion can be done on the engine still in the chassis like cover ,head ,cylinder,piston or do some of the head studs need to be removed to get parts off the engine for clearence tx in advance!:cool:

as long as yopu do not have fins that have been added to the cylinder you just need to pull the cylinder,head and valve cover to do the 416, take off the motor mounts but keep the motor in the frame

ya u dont but it mite be eazyer if u did cause i did a alot of engin work on my 300ex and my friends 400 and its just to much eazyer to do that and its not realy that are do take it out so just look at it be for u diside

before u start, make sure u get a 400ex service manual from www.helminc.com , also make sure u have a torque wrench. If u fail to take this advice i almost guarantee u will have your quad all f'd up.:eek:

and to answer your question, u do not need to take the engine out or do anything with the mounts

tx i have the manual and a tork wrench that is foot pounds i dont need one in inch pounds do i ?:confused:

No, but i think the service manual is in metric and standard, but u can convert to whatever u need.

it mentions foot lbs in the manual

when torqueing the head bolts.Has anybody had trouble getting to 17lbs.A friend said he couldnt go that high without breaking the bolts off.He broke 2.he was so pissed having to do it all 3 times .lol

Leave the motor in, its easy to work on.

Yea, the valve cover bolts snap all the time. Get new ones from servicehonda.com for your rebuild... they are inexpensive.

Also get a tq wrench that measures from 0-50 ft lbs. It will be more acurate than one that measures from 0-100.
