what octane and type of fuel you guys are running on the outlaws? i just picked up a new 08 525. the dealer put 89 in it(smelled old prob from sitting in showroom for a while). it dosent seem to run well. the manual says 91 or better. i was thinking on running half vp 110 leaded, half 89 pump.

91-93 octane is what I run.

No need for race fuel(even mixed) in a stock engine setup.

The gas in it from the dealer is probably just old. Put in some fresh 93 octane stuff and let er rip!

I run shell 93 if possible, if not highest grade 92 or so. I like to put a mix of race gas (not needed) just because it smells so good in the garage when tuning.

ok. usualy when i had a engine that was 11.1 compression or above i always at least run a half and half mix. here in california the highest is 91 and i dont think its a true 91. i will try a 2 to 1 mix of pump and race.

The reason it does not run right is the Jetting. These things are way lean from the factory...almost un-rideable.

JD Jetting jet kit, get one....right now.:D

yeah i figured already the jetting is off. i only rode it for no more than 5 min so far. i was going to pull the spark arrest insert and modify the air box before i realy take it out riding. which it will lean it out some more. i just wanted the best octane for the motor so i can get the jetting diled in.

Higher octane fuel will help the lean condition some.

How do you figure?

Higher octane fuel is in effect more fuel per amount of air. If your engine is lean, a higher octane fuel will richen it up.

X2. The stock main jet is a 138 which is scary lean. At the vary least go pick up 160, 165, and 170 main jets. It will cost about $15 and one of those sizes should be just right. I am at sealevel and approx 60-80* and I am running the stock needle with the clip in the 5th slot from the top (a little richer) and a 170 MJ and she runs so much better now. I have the fuel screw turned out 2.5 turns as per my instructions on my quickshot 2 (was 2.0 turns on mine from the factory). Idles much smoother now. I have tried anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 turns on the fuel screw and 2.25 to 2.5 turns works best for me. I have a modded stock airbox with no lid and the spark arrestor removed on mine so far. I am going to get a CT full exhaust soon and I might end up running a 172 MJ but I will have to see. I also have the zip tie mod. No bog at all even when going from a dead idle to WOT very quickly.
