It seemed like a ton of folks liked this thread last year so here we are again:p I am about 30 days late this year but honestly, we havent seen the deer here yet this season that we had the past 2 years. A good acorn crop has the deer feeding just about everywhere as this area is having its best mast crop in years.

I also put 2 cameras in one of my bottoms to see if they may be traveling low. Caught this fox last night.

This is the first buck worth looking at i've captured in a month. I have been putting out 3 pounds of corn daily in front of this camera just to keep them in a spot for the camera to work.

The good thing is that the Does are moving in to munch on the barley Oats that I have planted. As soon as the rut kicks in the Bucks will follow them Does and I will be waiting:devil:

This little buck we call "Butch". he has a ton of attitude and my wife see's him almost every night when she comes in from work

Pappy

That is all for today.

The main camera will be checked daily, the other two once a week until the season comes in then I will pull the cards if i hunt in the bottoms.

This buck is as good as in the freezer, Cody should be able to get an arrow in him the first few days of bow season.

Pappy

Butch will get a free ride for a few years, but seeing them come in is a good start. I would imagine over the next 10 days i wills tart seeing the bigger bucks move in

Pappy

This camera is 16 yards in front of Codys bow stand....and dont let the darkness fool ya. We had our first frost last night so the deer will start coming in earlier as it gets colder.

Bucks just look better on the wall but you have some pretty good size does there to help fill the freezer!

Pappy

And 4 hours later she was in front of another.

Pappy

The Doe's were moving good, but I only managed to catch Butch on film

Pappy
10-07-2009, 08:16 AM
The wind started around 3 am....here at 4 am the doe group hit the shelter of the bottom

Pappy

They should change their pattern once the weather cools off....usually they are in this spot at dusk and head to the ridge top...

My son has never killed a horned buck with his bow, if he gets a shot at that 8 he will kill it. I havent caught the bucks on camera that I see daily YET.....and we tend to fill every tag in the house (4 hunters) right here at home:p

Slow night, I reckon the wind had most of the deer holding tight

The usualy deer arrived right before dark and were in and out all night

Pappy
10-08-2009, 12:24 PM
Butch was in and out of the area as well

I will reset the cameras and over the next few days the apples should drag in some new deer along with a few of the bigger bucks

Bill Ballance told me that WV aint got no big bucks....

This is the one I was after last year and never had a chance to kill. As far as I know he is still out there so I am praying that he shows up this year and gives me a shot. This buck is almost 100% nocturnal.

Pappy
10-08-2009, 12:39 PM
He was a main frame 10 with 2 kicker points off his left beam. I saw him run a doe the day before thanksgiving but he was running her to fast and offered no solid shot.

Not me...I'd rather wait on the rut. You move in on a buck like that during bow season and youll blow it. I know the area he beds in, but its so nasty and thick that getting a stand in there is almost impossible. Its also at the top of a draw and the prevailing winds and thermals put your scent on him before youre 2 steps in the woods.

They get big by being smart....I kill them by being patient:p

well i went out tonight to check mine and it was gone  someone stole it! i'm PISSED. i was so pissed and i completely forgot to check if my tree stand was stolen too. to go on someones private property is bad enough but to steal stuff too thats just wrong, i don't see how some people are like that. anyways i'm not quite sure what to do. i'll be sitting out tomorrow after school with my bow and i know one thing, it sure as hell won't be deer that i'm lookin for.

asked around and did some FBI work lol and found out the neighbor had taken my trail cam. long story short i got it back and checked it... im thinkin this is probably why he took it. im gonna try to get him this archery season. but hes pretty nocturnal idk we'll see once the rut comes around.

Glad you got it back!

I turned mine off for now...we have only been seeings mall bucks and does so the less im in the woods the better. Fed Ex driver told me he saw a monster in my field last week so I know they are here.

Cody had 8 does and 2 small bucks under him this evening, but nothing worth sticking

Thanks for the videos I love watching deer. I used to hunt with my dad when i was a kid in Virginia and I miss it. I akways wanted to learn to bow hunt but we never got to because the parents divorced and i moved to Indy with my mom. I really enjoy reading you guys talking about it and the camera shots! :)
