The weatherman was right, the region around the Powerline Park track indeed would see rain and more rain. Everyone had been talking about a muddy race but when daylight broke, the bright sun and stiff wind would do its part to dry things fairly quickly.

The parking lot and pit area was of course mucky, but the woods would shape up quickly as the morning races were getting prepared to do battle on what ever course was laid out in front of them, mud or no mud!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:09 PM
We scurried around to capture some behind the scenes stuff for you all, and yes, I left with a handfull of bubble gum provided by the crew at GT Thunder:blah:

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:10 PM
It was a cool morning, and Brandon Sommers was ready for an arctic blast by the looks of that jacket! Sommers handles one of his fans requests as the day gets started.

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:12 PM
Always scoping out the ladies at the track....:D Even if I do have to sneak up on a few of them:blah:

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:13 PM
Jarrod McCLure and his Pop get a laugh at me ...probably slipping in the mud:p

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:15 PM
The work was well underway at the Warnert racing pit as the mechanics busily went about doing things that make it look like they are busy:eek: In all seriousness, them guys are always working hard and they have been having a pretty solid season as the class championships have been racking up!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:19 PM
Brian Buckhannon gives me a thumbs up as he heads off to the starting line. Buckhannon was looking forward to another solid race as he needed a win to get him the championship. After suffering a broken leg earlier in the season, a championship would be a stretch however Buckhannon just wont give up or quit and fought back hard at the past 2 rounds to keep him in the hunt.

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:21 PM
Jeremi Dudding arrived at the race via helicopter. Now I am barely covering the rent and here a U2 class racer is getting ferried in rockstar style:mad:

Dudding has his employer to thank for the lift in and lift out of the track due to a scheduling issue. Not sure what you do at work Jeremi, but that is some serious effort on their part to get you back to work so keep doing what your doing:D

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:24 PM
Clifton Beasley aka Mr. Numba One! 9 class wins and a 2nd on the season heading into this round....incredible effort!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:25 PM
I caught up with Rick Cecco on the line and decided to ask him how his sponsors product tasted...

Rick replied...."Mmmm mmm mmmm mMM mm"

I reckon its pretty good because he wouldnt stop chewing:blah:

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:27 PM
It's a good thing the Womens class exists....it is a needed break from the likes of Dudding and Cecco:D

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:28 PM
Jennifer Albright seen here walking away from her ceremonial fire. I never saw the fire, never smelled the smoke but the evidence was there.

She is good folks....and if you dick with her its a voodoo hex for you buddy!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:32 PM
Glen Pritchard would'nt even look at me or talk to anyone. He was pre running the race and in his zone:devil:

Pritchard has been on fire this season and later in the coverage I will reveal why I think he is pushing so hard:eek:

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:35 PM
Ahhh more beautiful young ladies about to get muddy:p People just dont understand when I tell them about our womens racers. One person I know actually asked how fat and ugly they had to be to actually race an ATV:eek:

We will let them keep thinking that way;)

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:36 PM
BJ Naugle is just mad that none of them fast girls will cut him any slack on the track!:D

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:37 PM
The support for Buckhannon was easily seen!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:38 PM
Lynn Sathers took over the controls on this Rath Racing Polaris Sportsman when Frank Batista had to call it quits.

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:40 PM
The stage was set, the players on deck and were only a few moments away from getting this party started!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:52 PM
Super Senior fired off the line and it was once again Glen Pritchard leading the charge!

For those that don't know, my oldest son Cody was behind the lens this weekend again. He would have been racing with you guys but he is still healing up from his wreck at Yadkinville.

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:54 PM
The Womens class left next and it was Angel Atwell pouring on the power as she streaks towards turn two!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:56 PM
Atwell would continue holding the lead as she reached my position.

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:58 PM
4x4 Open

Scott Kilby is a holeshot pulling machine!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 05:59 PM
Kibys shot at keeping the championship for himself was now infront of him.

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:02 PM
Dan Mcconnaughey would grab the holeshot in 4x4 Lites

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:04 PM
Mcconnaughey's lead would be short lived as the racers hit the woods, the lead would be up for grabs!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:06 PM
Michael Swift would get the jump and the lead in the 4x4 Limited class

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:07 PM
Swift would be off and running as he set his sights on his 12th class win this season!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:08 PM
There was only room for one quad:p

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:09 PM
U2 is always a fun class to watch. Now that Cecco had claimed the class championship, he was looking forward to just letting it all hang out and leaving the stress behind!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:11 PM
Cecco was hammer down!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:14 PM
Now I am not going to pretend what class is which on many of these but I do I can ID a few.

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:16 PM
The numbers in the morning race were looking pretty good in most classes

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:17 PM
Looked to be a bit more then some could handle so they played turtle:p

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:20 PM
All I could hear was engines from my vantage point, Cody was doing what he could to catch the first turn. That wide off camber was a bit different.

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:22 PM
The battle for the Schoolboy class has been brewing and now it appears that it will fall between Braden Henthorn or Kyle Riley.

Henthorn was out front off the start battling for the lead

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:25 PM
Riley was not going to just let anyone have the lead as he hit the woods he quickly started making things happen and would soon find himself where he needed to be

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:28 PM
Henthorn would have to follow Riley as the first woods section was attacked.....the battle was on!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:32 PM
Pritchard was motivated and runnings trong as he set a pace that would be tough to match!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:34 PM
Angel Atwell had made short work of the Super Senior class that had been in front of her and now looked to open up some room between her and whomever was behind her in second!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:36 PM
Running second to Atwell was Kristen as she once again was up front and looking mighty smooth!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:39 PM
Daryl Rath was running strong as he tackles the slick conditions

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:41 PM
Jesi Stracham rolls on by as she works through one of the woods sections.

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:42 PM
Passing room was nill in many sections

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:45 PM
Mike Benson grabs for his roll off string as he hits a field section

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:47 PM
BJ Naugle getting the job done in the tight stuff

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:49 PM
Rock on bud....but watch them trees:p

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:50 PM
David Hunsacker had some bad luck mechanically at Yadkinville and was looking to redeem himself here

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:51 PM
When those 4x4's catch you, moving is the best thing you can do! They hit HARD!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 06:53 PM
Just yell, I would feel terrible if you waved at me and wrecked....

And if I didnt catch the wreck i'd feel worse:devil: :blah:

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:10 PM
Last round in the coverage thread, I couldnt find a pic of Jodi Stracham on her new Can Am. This round I made it a point to find her before the race and scope out her quad.

And here she is, on her way to her second Womens Novice class win!!Congrats!!!!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:11 PM
Kyle Riley was up front in the Schoolboy class and looking strong!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:12 PM
I dont know about you, but when a girl smiles at me I post her picture:D Cassie Carlson would take 2nd in Womens Novice!

I said "Girl"....no need for you guys to start winkin and smiling at me during the race:grr:

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:16 PM
Hopefully I dont get the wrong picture posted here, but I believe this is Ryan Earley. This would be his first race where he would be on an adult sized ATV! Earley has been destroying the mini classes and now he joins the ranks of the big guys!!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:17 PM
Jamie Bougher heading in as he gets the 1 to go flag

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:19 PM
Kristen Atwell was getting the job done and was now ready to claim another class win !

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:20 PM
Roger Swim pushing his Kawi hard in hopes of catching Pritchard!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:21 PM
Beasley heading in to claim another 4x4 Lites win!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:23 PM
Robert Smith would end up with the U2 class win!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:26 PM
Garon Davis on his way to a second place finish in the Sport class!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:28 PM
From what I could see, this looked like a fun track!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:30 PM
Late in the race, you never know who is coming up on you!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:31 PM
What.....never seen an old guy cling on a root ball and take pics before:blah:

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:32 PM
Pritchard takes a peek over the riders shoulder to see if theres room ahead for a pass!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:36 PM
The racing was good as the last lap is always fun to watch as the faster riders catch up to the other classes

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:38 PM
Having the energy and stamina to run that last lap as hard or harder then the first is where its at!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:39 PM
Beasley...thumbs up, wide open and on his way to the checkered flag

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:40 PM
Rath was pushing hard, and in the end it would be worth it!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:42 PM
Jesi Stracham would ride to a 4th place finish in the Womens class!

That bumper has seen better days!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:45 PM
Bensons Kawi was showing the effect of a rough and tough race!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:46 PM
Catching the big UTE's can be easy, getting around them sometimes isnt!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:47 PM
The checkered flag would fly and it would be Glen Pritchard taking the overall win!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:52 PM
Angel Atwell would come in to take another class win and second overall

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:53 PM
Kristen Atwell would take second in class and nail the final posium spot!!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:57 PM
Bryan Buckhannon would take the 4x4 Open win, however that would be taken away as an issue developed dropping him and Kilby (who finished 2nd) to 3rd and 4th respectivley. I have not been told what the reason was.

That would give Daryl Rath second and Zachary Zakowski first in 4x4 Open!

This win should have sealed the deal on Buckhannons class championship but with the retraction i havent been told whether it will have to go to Ironman or its a done deal regardless.

Pappy
10-04-2009, 07:58 PM
Just a short distance from the finish, Rick Cecco would snap a ball joint. Tough break Rick.....go get'em at Ironman!

Robert Smith would claim the U2 win!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 08:02 PM
Now back to Pritchard......

If he wins the overall, he gets to be center stage with two of the series best at his sides. When they happen to be two of the Womens racers....well whats not to like! He cant loose!

Kristen is all smiles as she find the podium yet again! Better keep a close eye on her for next season!!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 08:03 PM
Angel...well what needs to be said. This win was icing on the cake to an already spectacular season. Congrats!!!

Pappy
10-04-2009, 08:05 PM
Ok old man....you're number one blah blah blah:devil:

Excellent racing Glen!! It is always my pleasure to give ya a hollar as ya pass by! 1 more to go!

the battle in the Schoolboy class would go to Josh Merritt as Riley would take second and Henthorn 3rd. Ironman will be interesting!

Pappy
10-05-2009, 07:49 AM
Thats about it for the morning race. We are going to do seperate coverages again to mix it up this round so enjo!

I was jones'n for racing and Powerline is the closest National for me as well as one of my favorites. I almost won there the last time I raced it in the Sport class on my old 300 back in 2005 I think. But I ran out of gas on the last lap and had to settle for second to Josh Konecheck who was riding a Suzuki 250 at the time.

You might see me at some of the Nationals next season.

Definately again at Powerline.

Hope to see it! I know the travel is a nightmare and folks dont have the freetime to run as much this year but its always good to see folks back out there that we havent seen in a few years! Even better when they do good!!

I haven't decided what to race next year. I'll be 41 next week so I could race Senior B but I would have to commit big time to be competitive at the B level.

I'll probably just stick to my plan of riding for fun all year then coming out at the end of the season to see how I fair against the C class either 30+ or 36+. There is always a great bunch of racers in those classes and I had a blast racing in the morning.
When I ran Sport it was in the afternoon and it was a whole different ball game when the pros and the A level guys caught up to us. Alot of pulling over to let them pass.

Cody raced the afternoon at Yadkinville and couldnt believe how bad the track was.....way different then the morning. He said he will move back to a C class until we get him some suspension that can handle that!!

good stuff. Cody just missed me on the 16-19c start, you can see my hand guard and fender on the right. I missed the memo that the straight curved up and to the right, or I might have had the holeshot

Great coverage as always! Hate to see that Cody couldn't race this one, he needs to be back at it at Ironman, I'd love to compete against him! I'm interested to hear the reason behind docking Buckhannon 2 spots, but congrats to Zack on a good ride!

We will be at Ironman....there is just to much to do at the final round so we were told to get out there:p

I'm really wanting to run College B, but really depends on how my wrist feels when I ride. Sunday is my first race since Yadkinville and I've had 0 seat time, so I'll see how that goes then decide.

I know Borich uses a twist.
