Red Line Lightweight Shock Proof Gear Oil. Red Line engineers recommend changing it once per season. I have been using it for over three years in multiple racing quads... It sticks to the gears like no other, 6 months after running an engine you can open it and every gear is still covered with the Smurf pee....

Much slicker shifting than others like Bel Ray too, as this is a full synthetic. Try it once and you won't go back.

I use the Honda oil in the red bottle as well. I've used that stuff in all of my 2 stroke trannys. Might not be the best, but I'm sure it's not the worst.

I've got a question, though...it's marked on the bottle 80w90. I've used other 80w90 viscosity oils before (diff. gear oil-not in my 'wheeler), and they're always a lot thicker- the Honda stuff has the consistency and color of ATF.

Sorry to side-track the thread. I swear I remember reading in the Honda factory service manual that the recommended lube for our tranny is actually ATF.

Absolutely love this stuff! I use it the 450r also. Smooth shifting.

I have an older manual for the R and if memory serves me correctly, it says to run a 10/30 in it.

I tried something like that and it shifted a little hard. Then I put in a 80w Maxima tranny oil and it seems to shift better.

I also noticed that it seems thin looking for somthing that is an 80w oil. When I poored it in for the first time I was thinking that it was no thicker looking than a 10/30 oil.

I just checked my manual again, and it said Honda 10w40 oil or equivalent. Any motorcycle orientated oil should do fine.

that is correct 75w90 (or 80w) is basically same viscosity as 10w30 on the charts...

X2 just change it alitlle more often, every two or three rides. shifts great and i think it hold the frictions to the steels better.

very possible. i've been testing a set of aluminum steels at the dunes(three trips now with a total of about 20 hours) and have punished the clutch severely and havent had any problems as of yet. although i change the fluid after each and evey trip. going for a two day trip on sat. keep in mind now that i've got neils clutch mod done also. ;)
