the other day i was riding my 250r and it just quit. i thought it fouled a plug even though it never does. so i changed it. nothing. i got it home and cleaned the carb, checked the reeds and the compression(205psi). nothin. changed the stator. nothing.
i poured a capful of gas in the plug hole and it started after a few kicks and ran for about 3 secs. (it usually starts everytime on the first or second kick). it also backfired. it ran as if it was bogging down.
im confused , what can it be.?
i checked for cracks in the cylinder and didnt see any.
thanks for any help

Sounds like a fuel supply problem. Check your lines, filter and float bowl for gas flow.

Check to see if you sheared your woodruff key.

see if the fuel petcock is plugged. pull the fuel line off and turn it on and see if anything flows out in a full stream.

I had a similar problem on my 400ex; it really was bugging the crap out of me. Seemed like it would run for a few seconds, then bog right out. Took the gas cap off, checked for fuel, gas cap back on...same thing. Turned out it was a plugged fuel cap vent hose. Something so simple had me scratching my head for hours. Once I cleaned that out, it was home free.

I was going to suggest that also, but I saw he had already changed his stator and would've of seen it.

It is either fuel, air, spark or the compression of those three.

Make sure your bowl is filling with gas, and check your main to make sure that looks good (clean, screwed in properly).

Check the air filter (I know it is stupid, but check anyway)

Check your spark...

true but i see many people put the stator on an end up messing the key up.

I had the same problem two years ago. It wound up being a clogged petcock.
