Im trying to figure out my swingarm and what it is for my 86R. I thought it was a stock 86 but for the brake stay the little slider piece in my manual and on online microfiches' is shows that it is held on by a split ring. On mine it has a threaded hole for a screw and a washer or something to hold it on. I dont have a groove for a split ring to hold it on. Its not like an 88-9 or my 400 where it takes a large bolt. I dont really want to afro engineer it and put just a screw and large washer on it. I also cannot figure out what or where the right piece is. Ideas? Suggestions?

you have a 85 swingarm, everything except the caliper(itself), brake hub, locknut and the wheels hubs are specific to 85 only. The swingarm, carrier, axle, sprocket, caliper mount and brake stay have to stay 85. Also with a 85 setup, you can't use a anti-fade.

85 what? I looked under the 85 atc 250r and my brake stay looks nothing like it. I have a new bearing carrier that fits and works. Im also using an anti fade.

If you could post a pic it would be helpful.

think hes talking about the spacer that goes on the swing-arm, holds the brake stay stationary.

I now understand, I've had several 85-87 ones. Its a bushing and a c-clip to hold it on. I lost several of those c-clips and I got a 88/89 one, it has a big shoulder on it, so it can't fall out, it rests on the inside against brake caliper mount. If this is the correct thing he's talking about, get this part # 43483-HB5-670, no more c-clip to worry about and bushing won't come out.

Still havent been able to figure this out. Im thinking im just going to put a screw with a washer in there to keep the slider piece from falling out. The threads arent metric which I thought was weird also. I couldnt get any metric bolts I have in there tried both different sizes and thread pitches. But got an sae philps screw to thread nice and smooth. So I dont know if the previous owner screwed it up and tapped it again or what. I have a second swingarm and it has the same setup. So I have two of these mystery swingarms I guess and no idea how to get the correct part.

Whatever that is it is not OEM Honda. I think someone got drill happy with your swinger. Deathmans got the right idea, use the 88-89 brake stay bushing with the flange.

That part number listed above. What is the difference between that and what I want to do? How is it going to stay on the swingarm? If I just knew how to keep that keeper in one the post then I would be good. I guess I could carefully grind a groove on the post also and use an c-clip but this post doesnt have that now like the microfiches show.

I've got a c-clip on mine and it doesn't fall off. That clip should hold that thing in place.

what your doing will work. and the difference in the stock bushing and the one pictured is a raised built on washer in the rear to prevent the bushing from coming off.

edit: after going out to the shop and comparing the different years. i've come to the conclusion that the 86 trx and atc is held on by the c-clip. the 87 - 89 is self contained and holds itself on by a ledge thats made into the bushing.

Ok so the newer one 87-89 has a lip that when placed on first then the caliper holder it wont be able to slip off? Am I getting this correct? Just trying to figure this out so im no just ordering b/s parts and wasting money. Thanks for all the help.
