I have two 2005 400ex's and am going thru the process of cleaning the carbs, putting a 42 pilot jets and removing the chokes to both of them. I have two questions.

1) Is it ok just to remove the two gold screws that hold the butterfly choke plate without removing the rod and and the yellow choke lever? It appears that the main restriction is the plate itself and by removing that the only thing left is just the rod going across.

2) On the left side of the carb right above the choke lever there are two exit holes with a v-shaped rubber hose coming out of them. One of the ATVs has this V-shaped hose connected but the other has no hose and the two vents are just bare. I have included a picture for better visualization. All inputs appreciated. Thanks.

On the first question, yes you can take the chock rod out.
There is a little black cover on the choke rod, pull that off and pull out the rod and put some silicone in the hole and put the cover back on and your done.

You don’t need the choke, if it’s cold just give the throttle a few squirts and fire "er up.
