Usually we can figure on 3 things in life, death, taxes and dust at Yadkinville! Well not this year. The weather man called for the wet stuff and indeed we did see it , and I have to admit that it was nice not having that red dust coat everything when the slightest breeze would blow!

The dark skies saturday morning had everyone wondering when the rain would fall again. Jennifer Albright was busily getting ready as the dark skies set an ominous tone as the event got underway

The Youth racers would deal with some slick conditions but nothing they couldnt handle. Jay Shadron would come out on top once again as he claimed the overall. Doug Howarth would finish second followed by Jon Rainey JR who found his spot on the podium in 3rd.

Charlie Welch was pretty stoked to find out friday evening that he had indeed wrapped up the 70 cc class championship. This allowed the young racer to move up to 90 Mod for todays event. Charlie was pumped and wanted to see if he could get on that podium!

He had a good race, winning the 90 Mod 8-11 class on his 70cc DRR, but fell short of his goal by finishing 6th overall.Welch lost his chain tensioner on lap 3 and had to stop several times to get it back on! Welch calls home to his dad who was unable to make the event. Good racin Charlie and congrats on the championship!

Most of Pro row was coming to life as I headed towards the starting line. William Yokely has his morning coffee as he milled about his pit.

Pappy
09-28-2009, 09:15 AM
Jarrod McClure biked some of the course as the day got underway. McClure would see nother frantic rush from this event to the airport as he would be racing in California on sunday in the WORCS series.

Now this is a gaggle of GNCC girls:p The early morning moms club!

Pappy

Chris Bithell having to deal with the chick thing:blah:

Might as well get a ring son, if your putting up with being the 3rd wheel youre goose is all but cooked:eek:

Pappy
09-28-2009, 09:37 AM
For me, well the time before the start at this round was spent search for a good shooting location.

Will they go wide in this turn, will there be any excitement in the next turn.....where is the good light....well there wasnt any:p

As Angel Atwell gives the first turn a look over, we decided that Cody and I would split up and shoot two different locations and off we went to find them

Pappy
09-28-2009, 09:43 AM
Heck the first turn was looking alright by me, all the young ladies were out for a stroll:p

Pappy
09-28-2009, 09:44 AM
Then it hit me...they werent out for a stroll, they were fleeing Raceday Dave!:D

Pappy
09-28-2009, 09:47 AM
It must have been herd mentallity because we jetted away from Dave as well:devil:

4x4 Open would rip off the line first and it would be Scott Kilby leading the charge!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 09:49 AM
Kilby entered the woods and had clear track ahead of him....

Pappy
09-28-2009, 09:50 AM
The Womens class went next and it was Kristen Atwell leading the charge

Pappy
09-28-2009, 09:51 AM
Traci Cecco hit the woods in the 3rd position as she now had the two Atwells to run down

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:04 AM
4x4 Limited would see Michael Swift out front as they work through the final turn before hitting the woods.

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:06 AM
Cody Anderson would hit the woods in the second spot. The Rath team has figured out some things with their machines and they were hoping for a good showing

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:08 AM
Rick Cecco needed a solid finish here to wrap up the U2 championship. He came ripping out of the corner and was doing all he could to keep things on all 4's as he battled hard with Jeremi Dudding off the start

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:13 AM
Super Senior would be out next and Glen Pritchard would be keeping an eye on the white Honda as they skirt through the slick turn.

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:15 AM
The rain that had fallen overnight had not impacted the woods but there would still be slick terrain to race on

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:17 AM
The classes were coming off the line fast and the race to the woods was on!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:18 AM
Jerry Welch has become a holeshot master!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:19 AM
It was so different shooting this race with out that red dust:p

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:20 AM
Cody was doing an excellent job behind the lens as he captured the action!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:21 AM
Dave Hunsucker does battle early in the 30+ C class

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:24 AM
Mellisa Walker battles for the lead in Womens Novice

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:26 AM
Kyle Riley takes alook back as he ripped to the holeshot in Schoolboy.

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:27 AM
At Unadilla, Riley found himself the very last rider to take the track as he had starting issues. He worked his way to a second place class finish!

Here at Yadkinville, he wanted to make it known he is the man to catch!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:42 AM
Cody handed me back his camera and headed off to get ready for his own race. I turned tail and headed into the woods to try and catch more fo teh action.

Scott Kilby came pounding into this turn!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:43 AM
Kristen Atwell is covered in that red roost as she was now withing sight of the overall leader!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:44 AM
Jesi Stracham wasnt off to a good start but still managed to throw me a smile as she rides past!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:46 AM
Clifton Beasley has had the 4x4 Lites championship wrapped up and would be racing for the win. I did hear that he is adding a new addition to his home and it will be built out of #1 plaques:eek:

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:48 AM
These guys were making pretty good time and wouldnt it figure I would have a flash issue just as the leaders hit my chosen spot:mad:

I practice just like the riders...I check my equipment before the race and try to prevent any stupid issue from screwing me up but it never fails! Just like you guys...I make do with it and hope for the best:ermm:

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:50 AM
I was doing my best to fix the issue as teh riders started pouring in. Glen Pritchards small headlite let me know I had missed another racer that I knew would be finding his way to the win column:p

Ever see a grown man have a fit in the woods LOL:D

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:54 AM
I finally said screw it and found another spot where 1 flash would work and I could try and fix the broken unit....

Not everone would have a good day as Zach Taylor would wreck and break his wrist. Heal up quick bud!! I can deal with faulty gear.....but its hard for these guys to race when a bone gets broke:(

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:56 AM
Cheyanne Shadron would have a solid day as she went on to finish 4th in Schoolboy

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:57 AM
There wasnt much room in the woods for a pass, but if you could catch someone at the right spot and they pulled over a bit you could get by them

Pappy
09-28-2009, 10:59 AM
Kristen Atwell came screaming past me, this time she had the overall lead!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 11:00 AM
Angel was trucking along in second as the pair sped away

Pappy
09-28-2009, 11:01 AM
Bryan Buckhannon tugs at his roll off string as he powers on in 4x4 open. I would suspect that by Powerline we see him back to almost 100%!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 11:03 AM
Rick Cecco hammer down! Rick had the class lead and was riding smooth!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 11:39 AM
Dudding was right on Cecco and would soon be able to give Rick some pressure

Pappy
09-28-2009, 11:40 AM
The two Can Am riders were being hunted by one hard charging Mike Benson

Pappy
09-28-2009, 11:43 AM
BJ Naugle and his unmistakable Raptor charging hard!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 11:45 AM

Pappy
09-28-2009, 11:50 AM
Swift marking another win in 4x4 Limited!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 11:51 AM
Pritchard one a mission as he races to the Senior class win!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 11:52 AM
Jennifer Albright would push hard the entire race and would finish 4th in the Womens class

Pappy
09-28-2009, 11:57 AM
Hunsuckers day would end and result in a tow:(

Pappy
09-28-2009, 11:59 AM
Angel Atwell would finish 2nd but this would be her victory round as she locked up the Womens class championship! Tim Farr shows his appreciation for her hard fought efforts this season!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 12:03 PM
Traci Cecco would finish 3rd this round and now has to look at finding her groove for next season's run at Atwell!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 12:06 PM
The podium may have had the limelight thrown at our new champion but Kristen Atwell was not going unnoticed! The overall win was a great accomplishment and I think we better keep an eye on her!!!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 12:21 PM
Rick Cecco would indeed wrap up the U2 class championship but it would be Mike Benson taking the U2 win here today. Great season Rick!!!

Dudding would loose a wheel and finish the race on 3 wheels and a hub:p

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:22 PM
The rain would pick up just as the morning podium cleared, giving even more cause to wonder how the race might work out. A slick tight track would mean alot of rough conditions, lack of passing and probably the death of a few bumpers and trees!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:23 PM
Bill Ballance has had a season full of hurdles to overcome, but you dont get to being where he is at without learning to hit a few curveballs!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:24 PM
Bithell seems to be alot closer in keeping his DS alive for an entire race then Sturdivant is. It would be nice to see both of these guys get in a solid race start to fonish and just have to worry about racing!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:25 PM
William Yokely has some big plans for next year, but for now its one race at a time!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:26 PM
Cook looked about as ready as he could be.

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:27 PM
Don Ockerman is an animal and I have been watching him ride closely this season. I think he needs abit of luck but he is another rider that we can see run out front at any round

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:28 PM
Borich just thought McGill wanted to chat....he was really forcing Borich to share his umbrella girl:D

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:29 PM
The rain was hitting us pretty hard and I ducked under my own umbrella and headed off to catch the start

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:35 PM
When they cut them loose, it was Bill Ballance out front as he grabbed the holeshot with McGill giving chase

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:36 PM
Borich was in the thick of things and was going to have to work forward as he did not get a great start.

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:37 PM
The grass had been removed by the morning racers and the top spil was now super slick and being churned into a sticky mess!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:40 PM
XC2 would fire off next and Parker Jones would get the holeshot!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:42 PM
Glen McConnell would best the field as he pulls the holeshot in Senior A

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:44 PM
Kolten Burd would be out front in College A at the start, and behind him the slick conditions were having some impact

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:46 PM
Fred Marley would get the jump in Junior A and would get such a good start he was out of the picture by the time the rest of the class hit this turn!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:47 PM
Vet A takes to the track a bit more controlled:p

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:48 PM
Shawn Javens rips to the lead in Senior B

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:50 PM
Justin Kirchhoff takes the holeshot in College B

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:51 PM
Greg Foggin off to the early lead in Junior B

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:55 PM
I took up a position in the woods and got everything ready to go....

And as I heard the XC1 class coming, once again my lights failed. This time it was because they were soaking wet:p

It was easy to see McGill and that bright orange, but everyone else was a muddy blur!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:56 PM
Sommers was ditching his goggles as they were of no use

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:57 PM
Ballance had dropped back a few positions

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:58 PM
Sturdivant came screaming past me. he wasnt in a bad spot and I had my fingers crossed!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 03:59 PM
The woods were a mess so I hit the fields in hopes of getting some better shots. A few trees were being used to slow folks down!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:00 PM
Rob Oakley heads out for another lap as the rain continued to fall

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:01 PM
Goggles were needed for sure, but they wouldnt last long:ermm:

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:02 PM
My own son was running College B this round and was finding out that there are some big diffrence in the track as compared to the morning races!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:03 PM
I ducked back into the woods for another attempt to get away from the rain, but even then an umbrella was needed

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:06 PM
Sommers came roaring by with the lead!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:07 PM
Borich was running him down!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:08 PM
The leaders had shuffled but McGill was still right in the hunt.

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:08 PM
Sturdivant was as well, he looked to be putting in a great effort!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:09 PM
The conditions werent as bad as we have seen before when it rains, and the XC1 class can handle just about anything!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:10 PM
Kiser works through one of a zillion rutted corners!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:11 PM
Wolf was just behind Jones as the XC2 class leaders were now well into the mix of the XC1 riders

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:12 PM
Walker Fowler had wrapped up the College A class at Unadilla, and here would be running his first XC2 race. It was of no surprise to find him in running up front!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:15 PM
Dave Simmons navigates the slick terrain. In all honesty, I did not think he was having a great run, but at the end, it would once again be his name at the top opf the Senior A stats!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:17 PM
Jamie Bithell has had a mixed season, even though he holds the number two spot in College A points. With Fowler moving up, he had a good chance at grabbing the class win here at Yadkinville!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:18 PM
Zac Phillips claws his way around the course....on his way to a 4th place finish in Junior A

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:20 PM
Shawn Javens rolls to his 11th class win on the season in Senior B!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:22 PM
The sweet smell of anti freeze was everywhere:p

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:24 PM
Cody had 2 laps in and was ready for more....unfortunatley somewhere on the 3rd lap he caughta tree with a rear tire and did a superman into a tree:p

He actually loved racing the class, and knows he can do better. As long as I can get a stem in here we will be back on the line at Powerline!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:40 PM
The final stretch

Borich retained the lead as the last lap was now underway.

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:41 PM
McGill was within striking distance and as they disappeared in the woods, it would be what seemed like forever until we could tell who would win this fight!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:42 PM
Ballance shoots between two trees as he held down the 3rd spot. If teh front runners made a mistake racing each other, Bill could capitalize and steal the win!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:44 PM
Bithell was charging ahead and looked to be having a decent race.

His partnet wouldnt be so lucky. Sturdivant clipped a tree and stalled the quad and it would not refire due to what they think was a bad or damaged starter

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:49 PM
Yep, I am like a kid in the mud....I just gotta get dirty:eek2: :p Tok a good shot on this one to the eye:blah:

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:52 PM
Joe Borich couldnt wait, he was going to give his son the first congrats as the champion!!!

Chris had done it, he had unseated the 9 time champion Bill Ballance and fended off all comers as the season was now his!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:53 PM
After years as the number 2 rated rider, Borich now had the legitimacy he wanted!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:54 PM
McGill came in just seconds behind Borich for second

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:55 PM
Ballance took 3rd with Kiser right behind him for fouth.

Kiser has had his game together this season and can stand proud on his season. I know this year isnt over, but I am sure looking forward to 2010!!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:57 PM
Sommers and Ockerman takes 5th and 6th respectivley.

Pappy
09-28-2009, 04:57 PM
Johnny G came in for 7th marking yet another Yamaha in the top 10!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 05:01 PM
The train of riders arriving together was showing how tight the last few miles were.

McClure makes the Yamaha party a bit larger as he takes 8th

Pappy
09-28-2009, 05:03 PM
Borich would finally be able to sport that number 1 plate after putting in an excellent season. The podium celebration would be curtailed and much smaller then usual due to the weather

Pappy
09-28-2009, 05:06 PM
The next round of racing is less then a week away as we head to Powerline Park.

With the pressure off Borich, thats one story less then this round but I am positive there are others itching to make a statement as we head into the final two rounds!

Hopefully better weather greets us! Not sure my gear can take another bath!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 05:08 PM
The story in XC2 was no less spectacular with the lead changes happening almost as fast as in the XC1 class. Josh Kirland would rise to the top taking the win, followed by Brian Wolf and Parker Jones!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 05:19 PM
Wolf has a memorable season in the works!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 05:20 PM
Parker just cant catch a break. C'mon son...two more rounds to turn it on!!!

Pappy
09-28-2009, 05:21 PM
Thats all from me folks, a HUGE CONGRATS to our new Champion!!!

ZBlaster
09-28-2009, 06:58 PM

Simon MX49
09-29-2009, 07:49 PM

Great coverage as always. I had a super hard time figuring out who was who in my pics......after just one lap. :D
