Hi,

My friend has a 450R and wants to change his old K&N filter. He wants to buy the biggest foam filter available. What is he looking for? Biggest I saw so far was Dasa air filter. Is there anything bigger available on the market? Thanks!

Biggest foam filter I can think of right now for the 05.

Another option would be to run the Dasa adapter ring and then find a big foam filter to match.

Call up K&N you can have any filter size made. They special make them. Thats what I plan on doing it will be cheaper than the $75 ones specifically made for the quad and I can make it the whole length of the airbox if I wanted to

get one for a huge diesel truck and make adapters for it if you want huge. Your not going to benefit from a bigger filter unless you can get all that air out of the motor. like bigger carb, big cam, bigger intake/exhaust, and a good pipe.

Get a UNI filter for an 06 trx450r. They are alot bigger than the 05. Dasa sells an adapter to fit the 06 filter on the 05 quad.

the dasa filter kit would be your best route to go with. it is really easy to tune also

The DASA looks like a K&N, and alot of people have bad things to say about K&N.

You are correct sir! And alot of people are running the cotton style
filters, (Dasa, K & N), with great reveiws. If these filters were so inferior, why are they so popular? It's all about what you like. ;)

I never really had a problem with them. I ran one on my 400 with no issues. All these horror stories just makes me paranoid. How big of a increase will the dasa kit make over a stock air filter?

of you could get a 06+ 450r airbox and an uni filter for half the price of the DASA if you wanted a cheaper option and if you have a 04-05 450

There as been numbers posted on the comparisons. They is a
minimal gain. My issues with the foam were, never could get it
as clean as the cotton filters. Also the deterioration of the foam itself. We all like what we like. ;)

What's the difference between that K&K uni filter kit and the Pro-Flow kit?.

Is difficult to fit a '06 model filter to a '04?

I dont think there is enough room in all directions. That and the clamping area of the second gen R's i believe is alot bigger so you would need an adaptor...some one please correct me if i am wrong.

SO what do you have to do to convert to a 06+ airbox and intake. Would just getting the K&K kit for the 04-05 be just as efficient?

I dont think that you are going to notice that much of a difference between getting an after market filter (K&N or UNI) made for the 04, or getting the whole 06, box, carb and boots and filter.

Just tell him to use the filter made for it and he will be happy. I recommend the spark filter because its about $55 and it comes with the billet adapter which you can also use the uni with.

cfm aluminum air box. . it uses a 250r filter which is huge compared to the 04/05! and it works great with longer travel links
