My dad has a ranger step side and you wont fit a 400 in there for sure. I used to have a dakota and with my mx setup I would barely fit it in the back and the dakotas are a little bigger and the ranger and s-10 so if you have an mx setup or wider than stock it may be awful tight!

My EX fits perfectly in the back of my Ranger, it's 2" wider and over 1" longer than stock w/21" tires on the back. About 1/2" to spare with the tailgate shut.:macho

Edit: As stated before, don't get a stepside. A 400ex won't fit in a Ranger stepside.

I have an 08 ex cab Ranger & My bike fits nicely . I have stock width in front & G-Force spacers on the back. Other than having to roll it over the fender wells it works out fine for me.

Will fit in a S10 if you put it over the wheel wells.

mine fits fine in my s10 with room to spare just sucks trying to put it in yourself because of the wheels have to go over the wheel wells.

The rangers are better trucks period.

ATV's will fit in back, but I never have liked doing that. A trailer is just so much simpler.

Anyways, if you are going to load in a small truck and go over the fenders, use some American ingenuity... it still exists regardless of what the media says.

Get yourself a couple of 2x12's and some cinder blocks, or something wide and tall enough.

Set yourself up a rack inside your bed to pull in on.
Just don't forget to tie down since the quad will be sitting higher.

Well I don't intend to hard-dis the S-10.

The Ranger is just a better truck period.

The 4.3L chevy's are the best they offer and are pretty darn good. Some of them will run as long or longer than the rest of the truck can stand.

For good fuel mileage in a compact truck that will last a long time trouble-free... the Rangers are hard to beat.... I-4 and 3.0L... and the 4.0L is a hoss.

But I kinda don't see the point of the 4.0L or 4.3L V-6 compact trucks. Yeah I know more power and they last longer than some V-8's... but I'd just get a V-8.

I've owned a number of work vehicles and find that all-around the 3.0L chassis is hard to beat. I mean I have gotten good service out of the I-4 Rangers and great gas mileage. But I like the 3.0L a little better... just enough more power to work'em better/harder and also run A/C and P/S.

I've put a TON of miles on 3.0L Rangers and Vans. I've put near 400,000 miles on a work van... and today I have a Ranger sitting in my driveway with near 300,000 miles on it. Every bit of the miles on both WORKING miles, hauling, towing, etc... No real problems with either beyond normal wear and tear.

both trucks have there ups and downs and i believe there pretty equal.
if you do get a 4.0L ranger i recomend a manual the autmatic trans are junk. also be prepaired to replace body mounts if its older. On the s10s the front Ifs and its cab corners are its weaknesses ball joints wheel bareing and idler arms are all knwon to go.

im a chevy guy myself and i have a blazer. but i pull a trailer, my friends s10 can hold mine with +3s on it and a gforce at full width with hds. and his ds650 baja with hds and plus +2s fits too and its wider than mine by a good 1 1/4 inch.

x2....Both are very good trucks. Ive seen them both take a good beatin and take it in stride. But the front ends on the 4wd s-10's are complete garbage. If you get an s-10, buy all lifetime warranty front end parts

I myself am a Chevy guy, but Fords are my next pick. I always wanted to restore a 77-79 F series truck :macho

Heres a few pics of my s-10
