View Full Version : CR500 Linkage. Did I buy the wrong bearings? 1991 Linkage?

Hey guys...

I just found out that Laeger used a 1991 CR500 linkage on their builds.... I thought they used a later model for some reason. So, I had ordered a 1993-2001 linkage bearing and seal kit. I am assuming I will need to return it? Things are different between the linkages apparently?

Anyone know why they used the 1991 linkage?

I was told that when Mark Laeger made the 1st CR500 link TRX250R, what he had at his shop was a 1991 CR500 dirt bike to work with.

Yeah, Honda made changes to the linkage parts through out the modle years. I would check an online part lookup between 91 and 93 CR500 linkages. That would be the easiest way to see if the bearings and seals are different.

Ah-Ha! I was wondering why they chose that year...

Bikebandit.com shows the same part numbers for the bearings, seals, and collars for 1991, 1993, and 2000....

I am confused.

Pivot Works shows kits for 91-92, and a seperate kit for 93-01...

Yep, he just happened to have the '91 CR500, when they started doing dirt bike linkages on the chassis.

SOooo..... Here is the scoop from Pivot Works. Perhaps someone else can use this info in the future.

This is the kitt for the CR500 linkage used on aftermarket R frames:
PWLK-H02-521
1991-1992 Honda CR 125R
1991 Honda CR 250R
1991-1992 Honda CR 500R

This is the wrong kit:
PWLK-H09-500
1993-2001 Honda CR 500R

The only difference between the two is:
The WRONG kit has a different mid-sized pin. The ID is bigger, for a larger bolt by 1mm. Everything else is the same, bearings, seals, short & long pins, etc.

Pivot Works was great to deal with. They are sending out the correct pin for me at no cost. Nice people there.

I suggested they include both pins in one kit to save them money in production/inventory.
