hey guys, i just joined the site, i picked up a 250r 1989 bored to a 265 the other day for 1800...leager a-arms, wiesco piston and rings, itp wheels, lrd full exhaust, works remote resovior suspension theres 5 hours on the top end, could use new plastics, a seat cover, and a rejetting because it used to run on racing fuel and now its on 93... Besides that, shes a beauty that i am never selling...shes my first 2 stroke, i have a raptor 660 HMF'ed and the huge difference i see right off the bat is torque for the 4 stroke. Question though, where is the cheapest place to get plastics and a seat cover, is rejetting the pipe myself easy, or should i just pay 165 including labor to get it done, and what quads can for sure beat me in drag, motocross, and im not talking about 310r's puma r's lol example...lt450 yfz450 raptor...etc... thanks

you can keep up with a 450 with a not so good rider on a somewhat stock motor. But i would suggest jetting your self to learn because you need to learn to jet on a 2-stroke.

I'm an excellent 4 stroke rider, i just need to learn how to take advantage of the powerband, im not used to high rpms all the time, so with my 265r i should be able to keep up with 450's, what about worked banshees, my friend insists i made a wrong choice and i should have got a banshee, there better, quicker...thats all i hear him say, i will take into consideration we are on a 250r forum lol

banshees are a joke. they are only good in a straight line. handle like a turd. go anywhere. ask anyone. you made the right choice. the 250r is light years ahead of the banshee when it comes time to hit the track or trails. thats why everyone raced 250r's for years over the banshee. banshee good for drag racing. thats it.

good luck with your new ride. your friends are gonna be pissed once you hit the track or trails and you straight smoke em :D

without seeieng the quad the 1800 you spent was a good deal for what it has on it.

i use to have a 1994 banshee and i would take a 250r over it any day

lug nuts need to be turned around with washers on those blue label wheels, check your compression before switching fuel, he may have been running race gas for a reason

That would make a great project R ! Everything is there, just needs some TLC.

You will like it much better than a Banshee. I have been building , my R for the past year and have only ridden it once on the trail so far. I can already tell you it handles way better than a Banshee. I had a Banshee once for about a year. The motor on mine was kind of set up for the woods and I really liked the way it ran. It was a fun motor. But up againts a 400EX I had at the same time, the 400 could out handle that Banshee everywhere. And even the little bit that I have ridden my R, it will do the same.

You had mentioned he had run it on race gas and you want to run it on 93. The first thing I would do is check the compression. If it is 180ish...or below, you're good to go for premium. If it's above that range, and depending on how much over, you should run a mix or full on race gas. It looks like you have a cool-head; those have replaceable domes to adjust your compression and are very easy to change.

Running a high compression motor on low compression (low octane) gas is bad ju-ju. Check it out and let us know.

Good luck with it; I think you got a relatively good deal- I paid $1600 for mine, and I don't think it was in all that good of shape compared to yours.

well the reason i want premium gas is the 110 octane out here is like 13 a gallon, New York, id rather pay 3.25, so i was going to bring it to my mechanic for my 660 raptor and have him check it out for like an hour and let me know of everything it needs. Most is minor
