06 yfz450 / 88 cr500 hybrid build

well i am starting my build on two hybrids. one for my son. one for my self. i am goingot put a cr500 in my yfz450 chassis. tierd of building 450 motors and having them blow up. so i am going back to fun and more reliable 2 strokes and to be different. i hope to have this built and running by the beging of flat track season in late november.

buy this!!! jp outlaw lt250/500...trx250r geometry and a full dr.q 540 hrd brand new motor!!! i have the front lower kit and the rear has a dura blue adj. strut!

and it's counterbalanced!!!

udated pics. got the motor in. got the intake plumbed and figured out. gonna use my fci intake, but had to have a angled shim. made the front and lower mounts. had the bushings the swing arm bolt goes through drilled out to fit he yfz swing arm bolt. have to mad a head stay mount and finish modding the pipe. so hope fully in the next week or so i can get the initial mock up done. then i can take it apart and finish weld everything. and put it back together and fire it up.

Ever considered the thought maybe you suck at or dont know how to rebuild a 4 stroke?

I know many fellow snowmobile mechanics who **** on four strokes only because they have no clue how to rebuild one correctly...too used to the easy 2 strokes....

Building a reliable 450 isnt rocket science...


On a better note.....i like the choice for a hybrid though....the cr500s were an awsome bike!

hopefully you reinforced that frame at all its possible failure points. also, find a liquid polymer to fill the chassis tubes with that will retard some of the harmonic vibrations that will reak havoc on your chassis and persons.

well i am pretty sure i can build a motor. 4 or 2 stroke. have never had a problem with any motor i have personally built. but my yfz motor was blowing up and i wasnt turningthe wrenches. but never the less. i prefer 2 strokes any way. they are more fun and less common.

Be sure to keep us updated on this project. I have often thought about a YFZ with a 250R engine. I just love the light weight!

i dont think its rebuilding thats the hard part... its shelling out twice the amount of money... i got a whole 250r motor for 250 bucks... i also could got just a bottom end for 250.. its also alot faster to go through a top end and they last alot longer then a 4 stroke... they rebuild them every race and some times they get more but back in the day they would run them for 3 years straight...

well despite my best efforts i got this thing running last weekend while having a bsu football game party at my house. managed to run it down the street once before the cops showed up. But last night i got to take it the races. i ran it int he open 2 stroke and int atv class at our local indoor flat track series.

And holy crap does it fly. gets alot better traction than i thought it would. But my gearing is way off. I started with a 14 front and a 36 rear. no where close. moved to a 14/38. still nope. then a 13/38 which is where i ran it last night. but i am getting torn off the line because you have to feather the clutch to get it to move. so the first ten feet i get torn. but once it is moving 2 nd gear was were the optimal gear for the track. i need to find a 12 tooth front sprocket and a 40 or bigger rear sprocket.

I kept having cooling line problems. apparently my attempt at having cool looking coolant lines was a waste of time. because the clear tubeing i used kept ruptureing. so i guess i will go with the normal black stuff. will post videos and pics later.

i leave for california right after thanks giving so i will build my sons over the xmas break. ran out of funds. and i still have the 250f motor sitting in my garage.

well good weekend of racing. no major injuries or broken machines. although i did manage to dislocate my tumb hitting vanilla ice. but oh well he is my buddy ill smack him for it later. in the none helmut clips my son is on the all black mini with blue and white gear. the cam is on my sons head in the mini races. it is on my head in the open atv, 2 stroke open, and atv intermidiate, and on the gal i am dating in the chick races.
