i was just woundering if there was a way to tell if my 400 has a bore kit without ripping apart the engine. its a 2000 if that helps at all.

There are ways to do it but you have to have the tools. You need to be able to check the volume of air that is displaced. You can do this through the spark plug hole. You will need to know how much is displaced in a standard bore motor though.

Then when I worked out all the steps I decided maybe it's not something to offer over the web. It would work but some poor guy could end up burning himself because of my crazy idea. I will offer it up puzzle style though. It involves a measuring cup that lists cc's, 900cc's of fuel, BDC, a displacement stroke and ending with an oil change.

lol well i got it on a trade and the guy didn't no nething bout it other then there is a exhaust on it and a k&n filter in it. there is wesco stickers on it. i no that its a bore kit but i wasn't sure if there was 1 in it. i no it has more kick then my buddys 400. i wasn't sure if there would b nething on the exterior of the motor to look for.

do the fins on the outside of the cylinder jug look newer or more silver than the rest of the block? I'll sell you a 440 kit for a 400ex with a piston for 300 dollars

just take the valve cover and head off and measure the inside of the cylinder with a mic...thats about as easy as it gets...unfortunately, you'd need a new head gasket though
or just wait until it's time to do a top end on it

no it basically all the same color. i had to presure was the hell outta the engine itself to get all the grease and mud off of it. so idk.

If it runs good, then who cares and leave it alone. Ever heard of "If it it ain't broke, don't fix it?"

But yes, the only way to know for sure is to mic the bore.

If it really goes then always tell people its a stock bore. That'll really piss em off when you spank them with your stock ex.

You could use a bore scope. Drop one in the spark plug hole and read the top of the piston. It will tell you what it is and you don't have to take anything off of the motor but the spark plug.

I used one to look inside my R motor just for the hell of it and you could see everything you wanted to.

A bore scope is also cool for looking up your nose.

Any tool truck would have one. And probably any good tool store.

If you have any good mechanic buddies, see if they have one you can use just to look in the motor.

Amy decent bore scope will run you over $400. FYI. Notive I said decent. There are cheaper ones, but they are pieces of ****.

I have a Snap-On model that you can hook up to an external monitor for viewing on a big screen.
