There is a 1987 HONDA TRX 250R, for sale near me, it has FMF pipes, Renthal bars, K&N filter, Douglas wheels, & Nerf bars. Icalled the guy and he said $3500. Theres not that many 250r's around me, so they arent for sale often. I wanted to know what you guys think about the bike and if i should buy it. The owner said it has never been rebuilt while he was the owner. But there have been 2 previous owners which he doesnt know if they rebuilt it or not. If i get it i will check the inside out and if need be, i will do a top end rebuild. Any other opinions?

Check for cracks in the frame.

It looks to be in good shape. Generally, if a quad is that clean, its been well taken care of. Look at the frame carefully, and listen to the engine for knocking. It should shift smoothly. Do not let your excitment get in the way of making a smart decision. It looks like it has about $ 1000 in mods, so that puts you ahead of the game right there. Good luck.. If the frame and engine is ok, go for it! Its a nice looking R.

WHEN YOU LOOK AT IT, BRING AN ATV JACK WITH YOU (OR A COUPLE OF MILK CRATES) CHECK OUT ALL THE BEARINGS. AXLE, A-ARMS, SWING ARM, ETC.... LOOK AT ALL THE SEALS TOO. THEY ADD UP QUICK IF YOU NEED TO REPLACE THEM. DO A COMPRESSION CHECK, TOO. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE YOUR TIME AND LOOK AT EVERYTHING!!!!!!! IF THE SELLER HAS A PROBLEM WITH YOU CHECKING IT OUT, DON'T BUY IT. HE MIGHT BE HIDING SOMETHING. TAKE IT FOR A RIDE. NOT AROUND THE BLOCK, EITHER. LET IT WARM UP. MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T LEAK. GO THRU ALL THE GEARS A COUPLE OF TIMES. CHECK OUT THE BRAKES, TOO. GOOD LUCK.

Thanks for all your opinions. So far im going to take a, compression tester ( what should the compression be at for a stock 250r motor), and a jack. Im going to try my hardest to make sure its in good condition. Any other tips that will help me out? Im going to see it saturday. Thanks again
