i was racing in my local XC series yesterday and my front brakes slowly lost feel troughout the race until they would go all the way down to the grip without much of a squeeze and i had to use my less than stellar back brakes, that has never happened to me before

its the 250ex i have in my signature with all stock brakes except for EBC pads

is this common, and how is the problem solved?

one of the ways to improve this is to get braided brake lines...

i had the same thing happen on a 250x, almost crashed big time because of it. to fix it, first i rebuilt the master cylinder, then like speedyquad said, install steel braided brake lines. after that i had more stopping power than when it was new. good luck

I would get all the brake fluid out and re-fill and bleed the brake system first. I'm using stock masters, never rebuilt on my 250r, they lock up right away. Its when the fluid gets water, it turns to air and that is why the brakes fade.

you've got air in your brake lines sounds like to me... fade, or brake fade is the reduction in stopping power caused by a buildup of heat in the braking surfaces...

so you racing you probably need aftermarket brake components like rotors and pads.... i may b a juinor member but im certified in brakes

thanks^^^

thats what i suspected was getting air in the system from too much heat

oh yeah, the race i was speaking of was ungodly muddy aswell witch probably didnt help much:p

yeah man the brakes in a muddy condition will get alot looser and will feel like there is barly any stopping power and as for the pads burnt up man check your rotors if they are like rly rusted out or have melted metal on them there guna eat the s**t outa the new pads make sure you get high performence pads for hot conditions racing also if you get like performance brake parts and new brake lines run dot 4 brake fluid not 3 if thats what you have been using its got a boiling point of about 450 degrees so she can handle a bit more than 3 which is about 400 er so good luck to ya man

yep

the stock brake work great, even the pads so im not going to spend extra on aftermarket parts if there going to wear out faster
