Planned a big riding trip to the sand pits up in poland new york today. Was going at good first, did a few drags with my ESR310 ATC250R. It was running good, like it has since i built it march of this year with a new ESR cylinder. Half way through a woods ride, it made terrible noise and locked up. Tore it apart and found broken honda rod, piston and sleeve skirt. Kind of bummed, since i havent even changed the plug all summer. No major wear, just freak rod failure i guess.

I had a OEM short rod snap in half and put a hole in the cases and also broke the cylinder skirt. Pretty much trashed everything.

man! that bothers me now, I got a 310 and NO money to replace it if i snap a rod. Were your guys motors set up mild or were they as far as a 310 would go?

Rods can fail for a number of reasons not related to manufacturing quality. At least the tins didn't fly off like a new wiseco.

Not sure what happened first. cylinder bore looked good and was still on 72 mm bore. had it apart few weeks ago, looked good but i re-ringed while it was apart. seems like sleeve or piston cracked first and top of rod ripped apart when it jammed, but i have no way of knowing. hope these new esr cylinders arent going to be bad luck. not sure what i am going to build now. still have a pro-x 310 i can run.

Mine was pretty much a stock engine. The only crank failure I've ever had on a 250r engine out of the probably 20 or so that I've had.

Impossible. Honda parts do not break or even wear.

Honda parts actually get stronger and more in spec as they age.
