axle problems

when i got my bike it had an 85 swingarm installed. i have swapped that for an 87 with the brake stay, snap ring, and carrier.

now after sliding the axle in, there are no splines left for the threaded collar to sit on. imagine that the brake hub was "too wide".

now i am reading mixed posts about people using atc axles in the 86+

what do i do?

oo and the axle is a durablue with the sprocket on the inside of the hub.

little update, i decided to try and tighten the rad lock even though the threaded collar was not on a spline. i held the collar with a channel lock and tightened the rad lock. after a few turns i did not have to hold the collar with the channel lock anymore. maybe it caught a spline? or maybe its just so tight against the hub.it seems to hold pretty tight. is this ok to ride or will it come off and throw a chain? the rad lock has 2 pinch bolts
