A bundle of companies seem to produce these out of aluminum. I'm just wondering why aren't there are some in plastic, it would seem you could make them in a better shape and clearly it would be lighter (I know the total weight is pennies, but still).

Anybody have access to heat-molding plastic?

And hopefully they'd be cheaper than $50+ if they were plastic.

jmo here but I would think plastic would end up being more expensive. I also think they wouldnt hold up as well against wind pushing them back as the metal. You can make air scoops out of 10 bucks in material and some common hand tools vs the cost of plastic and a machine to heat mold it. The plastic would look nice though

Maybe thats what I should do, just try and make them myself

have you ever looked into vacuum forming? I was looking into making my own machine when I got a bug up my *** a couple of months ago. Go to you tube and look up homemade vacuum formers.

If the company made high volume (hundreds if not thousands) then the plastic would be much cheaper. For low volume, like the 400ex scoops would be, the aluminum is without a doubt cheaper. If you had a sheet metal break & a shear, and the desire you could make your own for very cheap. If you really want would could make them yourself using some c-clamps and a piece of 2x4 if you have a way to accurately cut thin aluminum to the desired shape.

That was just a picture off ebay, there is a ton up there. You should be able to find them. They make them in a ton of colors.
