Im looking into gearing down my 07 400ex for gncc. How much should go down and do I have to change the number of teeth on both or just one sprocket(s)? Keep in mind I dont want to go down to much and lose all my top speed.

start by dropping the front one tooth, stock is 15 get a 14 if thats not enough or too much you need to look into the rear sprocket. more speed out of the rear go smaller. more power go bigger. opposite in the front.

I agree 100%. I do race and still trail ride my 08 and dropped the front down 1 tooth to a 13/39 setup. I didnt lose that much top end but for GNCC it may be just the ticket for you. Much better to be able to stay in second gear on trails and be able to get the pull out into wide open areas. Mind you.......you will definitely shift a bit more especially in first...it will geared alot lower than stock. I have had other ride mine and say it is a much better gear setup.

stock front sprocket has 15 teeth and rear has 38, if you have 13/39 then you went down 2 in front and up one in back for a huge bottom end gain, i have a tall sprocket on mine in front, a 16 tooth for speed and in the back i put a 39 on to keep some bottom end. i can cruise at about 73 down the road without red lining it, but its also a 440.

Mines an 08 and the stock gearing is a 14/39. 07 and back i believe was 15/39.

that is correct, 05 and up have 14/39 so i guess you could go to a 40 or a 13 but they are kinda hard to find. you could run 19" rears or 18" rears instead of 20s too that would be like running one lower in the front with the 18s or 2 up in the back with the 18s. steve

thanks everyone ill probably be ordering a sidewinder titanium 2 13 tooth front (one less than stock). should this be a significant gain? and can i leave the rear 39 alone?

That will be perfect, I noticed an immediate difference with the 13/39 setup.

do they even make aluminum front sprockets? no what I'm saying is it might be a good idea to buy a cheap sprocket set and a couple of extra sprockets to try them out (gearing wise) before committing to a 3-400 set.

nevermind he said he was going to buy only the titaniumII front sprocket
