Ok can someone give me the complete run down on a port and polish, like specs, if there is any, what is being done, do you have to change valves or anything thanks,

all they do is port it (intake and exhaust ports) out to a bigger diameter. and then they polish it to a mirror finish to allow more air to flow, i dont think you need to do anything with your valves but a good compliment to a p&p is +1mm valves. or like i have the kibblewhite titanium valves and HD valve springs and they make a big difference over stock.

if you have a basically stock machine (pipe filter but no motor work) the port and polish wont do much, but add a hi compression piston and a full exhaust, and youll have a machine then. good luck

dont polish the intakes to a mirror like finish per say. make them pretty good but leave a bit grit there. it helps the mixture mix some more from what i have been told. I would have it done by someone if you want to have a perfect job. just cleaning the rough stuff out is not bad but to take material off is a bit different. you have to make sure it is the same on both sides and such to match them up. most places use a flow bench to see how the flow is coming out of the ports to make sure they match. this is the tough part and what makes a port and polish worth doing. just my .02 though. steve

My opinion is that a port job is great and well worth the money but its a job I think that a pro should only do.

thats definitely intake, because the two exhaust ports are separate. the picture still has the rubber boot between the head and the carb on.

I only ask cuz it looks like theres a line or a ridge half way into the port. Might just be the boot is alittle off idk. Here's mine to compare.

It is the intake side, the boot was ported to match up with the head.

i am not sure if anyone has actually done a before and after comparison to find out what the differences are. I guess you cold contact c&d or something, they may have some from testing for the best port job and stuff. otherwise if anyone has any dyno numbers or something post it up i am interested too. lol steve

I know the more the engine is built the more the P&P will help.

agreed, the more radical you can go. I would say that it is along the lines of maybe a horse or two at most on our machines. maybe 3 or 4 on bigger engines. steve
