I am going to have to get some new cases, and want to know how to keep them safe... What are some of the ways I can do that? What typically happens that causes the cracks, or breaks, or holes?

I know about a case saver, in case the chain breaks, and am thinking of making one out of steel in case the chain goes.

What else typically goes? Tranny gears? I don't have a lot of hp, and ride in sand, so the drivetrain doesn't get shocked too much.

the sand is alot more punishing that you realize. the things i do as part of maintanance is as follows...

1) make sure your swinger is alaways kept tight.
2) always check the engine mounts.
3) keep a check on the counter balancer bearings
4) keep a check on the counter shaft bolt/sprocket
5) when checking on the engine mounts and swinger, always
make sure you keep a fair amount of distance between the
two. oddly enough the two can/do shift.
6) i too make my own case saver but make them out of 3/16"
aluminum and profile them with a more gradual/longer ramp. i
also profile them so that they perfectly fit and almost touch the
chain rollers.
7) run a frame/engine skid to prevent any sort of objects from
hitting bottom of engine.
8) keep a check on cranking compression and refresh after a 10%
drop from enitial build, upon refresh i take this opertune to
check the crank tins and all bearings.

thats all i can think of at the moment.

ALWAYS keep a good counterbalencer bearing in there because i have seen a couple of bearings go and ruin the cases. Plus keep the motor and swingarm tight to keep the swingarm and motor from rubbing.
