TRANS fluid.

ok. i went to the yamaha shop to pick up some trans fluid and they gave me some "Pro Honda GN4 SAE10W-40SJ" is this the correct stuff your supposed to put in your TRANS.

and also post what kind of trans fluid you use, i'm tired of buying this expensive stuff. i know there is some cheaper stuff thats out there that will still work. or is it to risky

jut make sure it doesn't have Moly in it then your fine. I use the Honda trans fluid in the red bottle.

Honda tranny fluid, good stuff $6.30 at Rocky Mtn.

what if i go from http://www.maximausa.com/products/images/Large/MTL_G.jpg to http://www.hondadirectlineusa.com/pics/gn4%20large.jpg , do i need to flush it out to use this oil?

I use Klotz Flexdrive 30. You really don't want to go cheap on your oil. Just use any transmission oil designed for two stroke transmissions or any oil designed for wet clutches. Like Pitsrule
said stay away from oil with moly in it for the transmission.

i use the maxima 80w in my tranny 40 in motor side, i would switch back to gn4, honda oil, personally the maxima you were using is better than what comes in hondas stock, my budy has a 08 400ex and put rings in it 2 times, im sure its not because of the oil, but it could be part of it, you cant use car oil in a quad, like a 400ex uses the motor oil for the clutch and auto oil has a additive in it that will screw up you clutch i know from experiance i put autozone oil in my 400ex and took it out on the road and the clutch was slipping bad. Id stay with maxima
