300ex questions

I just purchased a 98 300ex. It was ticking pretty good so we adjusted the valves on it. However, it is still ticking so I think it the timing chain. Is the timing chain adjustable, if so, how? If not, how would I go by fixing this problem?

The timing chain has a self adjuster on the side of the motor that the exhaust runs down. Some times the adjuster can go bad, and it will no longer hold tension on the chain. other than the adjuster, the chain could be worn out and loose. If you had another adjuster you could try that first instead of tearing into your motor. The adjuster sticks out about 2.5" it has a flat screw driver slot on the end and is bolted on with two 8mm or 10mm bolts.
