Hey guys I've been wanting a truck for while and have made my mind up that I want a 2004-2006 Ford F150 FX4. I know the 5.4 isn't a powerhouse but I don't care. I know they have a sparkplug issue but I don't know the specifics. What other things have guys experienced? What should I look for?.....thanks.

I have an 04, just had an issue with the Power window switch, had an issue with some moisture in the fog light, that is about it. Really solid vehicle. Then again, I have had it since 04 and have 20k on it, so it's not a daily driver. It has pulled campers and enclosed trailers without a thought. Plenty of power.

My dad has a crew cab, Kings Ranch edition. Nice truck except for the rear suspension. It's absolute junk. It's like the rebound is way too stiff. You get this "bucking" feeling when you go over bumps or railroad tracks at any kind of speed. I wouldn't have one, just for that reason.

My dad has an 07 F150 lariat and he hasn't had 1 problem with it. Great truck.

shoot used motor oil in the rockers and inside the doors....I'm starting to get alotta f-150 rust jobs in my shop. all rockers and door bottoms. I'm not talking about getting greasy nasty undercoating sprayed on it. I mean, drill the rockers in the door jamb and spray oil in there, you need to use oil so that it will flow down into the pinchweld area.

we have a 2007 f150 lariat crew cab. we could not be happier. it has all the power we need, good ride, and it tracks very well. it pulls our 6300 lb camper without any problems, as the wheelbase is perfect for the size. i know you said 04-06, but a lot of the stuff is identical or similar. we usually get about 15-18 mpg.. we have managed 20. the only issue we've had after 34,000 miles is a tire pressure sensor that went out. no big deal.

ps- if you're towing anything big, do yourself a favor and get the dual cam sway control. much better than a single sway bar.

i have a 04. AWESOME truck. i've had mine sense 05 and have put 90,000 miles on it and have never had a problem. and when i first got the truck i didnt take care of it. (pretty much mud rode everyday for 2 years strait). i've also hit quite a few things and have had no damage. very strong sturdy truck.

We got a 05 here single cab with ext bed, 147,000 miles on her and she runs like a dream. I think the alternator is starting to go but no real issues yet. It did get a bad shake at a steady 50 mph around 100,000 miles and its very common with those year trucks. Check f150forum and you will see. Also cracked a leaf spring witch i replaced and haven't had a issue with it shaking since. Not the fastest but she lugs what i need to with no issues. Just drinks gas

My pops had an 04 extended cab 5.4 FX4. Truck rode like a cadillac compared to my F250. The 5.4 is really deceiving. It feels really smooth and slow, but in reality its actually pretty powerful and quick. An intake was the biggest improvement made to his, that coupled with the exhaust made it a much more fun truck to drive. We put 90,000 on it total, and sold it to a friend who is now using it to haul a camper.

This motor didn't have the spark plug problems, that was the older 2v motors. We had one of each and never had that problem.

If you wanna talk about durability of these trucks, find IMSROLL450R on here or on www DOT TRX450R DOT org. We took his out in the dunes in OK, and we pounded a whoop section with it all weekend, truck ran great and never gave any issues.

Research the plug issue. I'm not sure which 5.4's had em but If the plug breaks off in the head during removal there's a good chance that either the motor has to come out or the cab has to come off. That's a pretty expensive plug change.

So far it sounds pretty good.....I looked at the forum and there is a tool you can now get if you have a problem with the sparkplug issue.

Keep the info coming....thanks!!!

Yep, snap-on actually made a tool specifically for this reason, but last I knew it was only an issue on the 2v motors, I dont think the newer 3v motors had this issue, but I'm not 100% on that...

We had a 2v and a 3v 5.4 and had not one problem from either motor.

We have 6 07 f150's in the family. Haven't had a problem with any of them.

only thing i don't like is the curve in the window. if you like to rest your arm with window down forget it and the dash seems HUGE and bulky to me and i hate how stiff the seats are but that's just my opinion.
