I just got done installing a 13 tooth front sprocket and I was wondering what the overall effect of the top speed would be. A buddy said it would be about 5 to 10 mph less. I'll have to wait till tomorrow evening to ride it to see how it feels. I hope it gives me the low end crawl speed I want for riding trails.

Probably 4 or 5 mph...

I think that is what I figured out when checking for myself. I bought a 39t rear also, just in case the 13t was too low.

I bought a 13t myself for the same reasons... just to slow it down a little on the bottom, and also to help me stay in 2nd > up as much as possible, because I really had to catch neutral by accident on the 1-2 shifts.

However, I installed the Jardine RT99 exhaust system before I ever got around to the sprocket.

That gave me gobs more low end from right off idle... and made it a lot less work to ride without stalling.

But I still want to install the 13 tooth and see what I think of it.

I don't think I'll run it for racing if there are any high speed sections in the course. Probably be better off with the 14t, or even a 15t depending on what the mix is.

But for just trail riding, it should be nice.
