View Full Version : Check this Out ! very cool little way to carry extra fuel, or make a hidden toolbox

While I was reinstalling the plastics, after my 450r carb installation, I discovered a convienent little storage spot, that could be used to carry a quart of reserve fuel,...
or cut out the side, and make a neat little hidden cargo/storage kit.
Carry some tools, tire plug kit, co2 inflator, or whatever !
Check it out, ...it's kind'a Cool !!!
It's a PERFECT fit, it cant fall out, it stays put, and the seat installs as usual with no interference.

I don't know if it would fit with the stock 400ex carb, but I suppose it would.

Obviously, this will only work once you have removed the OEM air snorkel, and plugged the hole in the airbox, But what the heck!, if it works for you then Great!
hope you enjoy...

I wouldnt suggest carrying fuel in that quart container. The mouth of the container is pointed downwards and it is right above the exhaust pipe. If it leaks it may cuase a fire or the exhaust pipe may heat up the container and it may explode,r burst or leak. Looks dangerous to carry fuel in it.

tri5ron,
By no way is my above post written to degrade your idea. I was just pointing out some dangers that may arise. I think a tool box would be the best idea. JMO

You bring up a legitimate point, and it certainly could'nt hurt to test it with a weekend of riding, filled with water first.

Personally, I'll probably end up doing the storage compartment idea, and cut the side out, to carry a tire plug kit, co2 inflator, towrope, a few zip ties, and a couple of wrench's.

But either way, If that's what a nerd-bike is, then I'm fine with it.

I'll be the guy, that when we are 20 miles out on the trail, and I need to make a emergency repair to get myself, my wife, kids, or a buddy back to camp, then I can hopefully do that.
I don't race, I don't ride tracks, we are often on our own.

Where we ride, we are often many miles away from camp, with only our own abilities. I don't have the convience of relying on Mommy and Daddy for assistance.

on more than one occasion, I've had a unknown rider come into camp saying they needed help, or had lost a member of their group.

The last time it happened, we were 8-9 miles out on the trail, and off in the distance we saw someone waving their arms on top of a hill, obviously needing help.
When we got to him, he was frantic.
He said his wife and daughter were lost somewhere out in the desert. He didn't know the area well, and they were not very experienced riders.

They had been missing for 2 or 3 hours, and there was only about 1 1/2 hours of sunlight left. Naturally he was close to panic level.

To make a long story short,...
we spent about an hour looking for them, found them a few miles away. They had rolled their quad in a wash, smashed the kill switch on a rock, and the quad would not start. They were out of water, had minor injuries, and getting pretty scared.

A little bailing wire, a little electrical tape, a few zip-ties, and I had the quad up and running. We gave them some water, cleaned/bandaged a bloody elbow, and helped them back to their camp,.... just as the sun was setting.

End result?...
One safe, happy, VERY Grateful, family, ....
who was not going to be spending the night fearing rattlesnakes and coyotes.

As I was about to pull away from their camp to head back to mine, He shook my hand and said "Thanks, I'll call you McGyver".

(funny thing is... I don't seem to remember him saying anything about my quad being "nerded-out". HMmmm, I wonder why???)

tri5ron,

Your the man!!!!!!! I've had to help out some people a time or two and you never know what your going to need. Great idea, and not to sound like a hippy but your reusing something that would normally end up in a landfill.

We have three bikes and each one will have the:

"TRI5RON SAVE-a-DAY TOOL KIT CARRIER" ;)

Great Idea, I put some sockets, pliers, and wrench along with a mini hack saw, zipties, little tube of gasket maker (dont know why I just saw it in my garage and it fit in there) and some of that stick putty.

Then on the left side I found a plastic jar that fit nicely and put some first aid stuff, bandages, steri wipes, some gauze and electrical tape.

Now I need to make something to mount up to the stock toolbox location to hold a rag, smaller rope, and some bailing wire, ect.

This is cracking me up guys, :D , too funny, I love it !!!
Haha! lookin' Good, isn't it funny how sometimes the sillyest little thing can catch on so quickly, and work so perfectly to fit a purpose???

Now we're going to have to start our own club, before you know it , we will have an EX---clusive Membership !! LOL !!

So now the assignment will be....
You have to see what is the most useful, most functional, most derversified, most creative, "pack 'o stuff", you can come up with, to put into your...

"Tri5ron - Save A Day - Tool Kit Carrier" :p (haha, thanks alberto).

To BE CONSIDERED, for entry as a Fraternal Brother, or Sister, of "The Club"...
You,... as a Self Proclaimed Nominee, (I.E.- a Pledge), will have to post/submit a pic of your "Stuff", both packed, and unpacked.
(I will go take another pic of mine with the rag removed so the contents can be seen).

To BECOME a Fraternal Brother or Sister of "The Club",...
Existing members will vote on all new Pledge's, and will decide if their "pack" is worthy of "The Club's" , Utmost High and Impecable Standards...
(we'll figure those out as we go along. ), yeah right !!!

Oh yeah, ...one other thing...
We also get to make up the rules as we go along :p :blah: :p :blah:

To be RELEASED from the membership of "The Club",...
A Looonng list of task's and duties,
(which be be determined at a later date by existing members),
will be required of the "Exiting Member of Good Standing".

(but I feel that ONE of the requirements should be),
that the "Exiting Member" should buy a case of Beer, a set of new rear tires, and a tank full of fuel,...
for each remaining member
:huh :eek2: :huh :eek2: :huh :eek2:

So with that....
I Hereby Recognize, as Fraternal Brothers, to the "Tri5ron Save-A-Day Tool Kit Carrier Membership",
(commonly referred to as "The Club"),....

Fraternal Brother - alberto,............. (waiting on his pics)
Fraternal Brother - guenther,...........(waiting on his pics too)
Fraternal Brother - fishnfergie, .........(let's get those pics up !!!)

now we are the one's who will judge,...
the next new coming "pledges", and their "packs",
for consideration,
to this EX---clusive membership of,
"The Club"

have fun with it ! Let's see what ya got !!!

if you've got THAT much Crown, Who needs the tools ???

Just duct tape it to the side of your helmet, and use an old gas cap vent line to run it down the side of your goggles and under your chin guard!

ok, I said Id show a pic of it packed, so here it is...

http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n148/tri5ron/IMG_0268.jpg

I also decided to wrap a couple of long pieces of double sided velcro around the bottle, to hold the lid/flap closed a little better. this type of velcro tape has the hooks on one side, and the loops on the other side, so it just wraps around, and holds itself in place...

http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n148/tri5ron/IMG_0266.jpg

NOW we're talkin' !!!
two more pledges to "The Club".

heebs12, and wckedclownz69
now first you must understand,....

to be admitted into the Fraternal Brotherhood, you must submit your proposed "kit" for consideration by the already existing Brotherhood. We will then publicly vote , here in the thread, for you acceptance or denial.

You must also vow, to adhere to the strict rules of membership, and accept the terms and conditions for said membership.

Blazin400, this goes for you too.

also understand that if you are found on the trail WITH the "tri5ron save -a-day toolkit", (or any variation thereof...), AND you have NOT accepted the terms, conditions, and publicly vowed your solemn commitment TO the brotherhood,....

You will be eternally banned, and stripped of all your riding gear,...
(yes, that means you will be riding back to camp NAKED),

AND you better have beer for the rest of us, or things could get ugly :huh  :huh

Remember,... we get to make up the rules as we go along !!!
Do you Swear ???

So what say Brother Guenther, Brother Alberto, Brother fishnfergie...
Do these terms seem acceptable to us ???
Is there anything I left out???
anything you want to add ???
