I am looking for some pictures on how a-arm skidplates bolt up on a 400ex. I am making some at vocational school and im trying to figure out how I need to make the mounts. I am looking for a pic that is from the top of the a-arm so you can see the top of the skidplate. Thanks in advance

I already made some out of aluminum but they where a little to thin so I think im just going to make some out of mild steel this time.

a-arm skids are nice to have, but i find then useless.

X2, well on a utility quad they might be nice. They tend to just hold crap and add weight on a sport machine. Unlike an "engine" skid they really aren't protecting much.

But,...
being that we ride rocky trails, and have never seen a track,..
and looking at the gash's in the bottom of my a-arm skd plates, (that are NOT dents in the a-arms,...)
I think they DO have a useful purpose.

I ride tracks also but I have an ltr for that. I just have this 400ex for mountains. They will protect a lot from rocks because we ride through some rough trails with big rocks. I can probably get those hooks made in machine shop at school for free but I might make them myself.

I think they DO have a useful purpose. I ride some pretty rocky stuff too and I still think they're borderline useless. A-arms are pretty tough. I'll take a little dent or scrape any day over those skids.

and that is not to say either opinion is right or wrong.
it's just a matter of preferences, and what we each like or dislike.

ride hard, ride safe, keep the rubber side down.

if you still decide to make them, put a strip of rubber or something in between the skid and the arms helps with squeaks and the finish of the arms. i do like the fact your making something custom stand out from the pack.

It will be next week before I get to start on them but I should be able to do them in one day. I still haven't found anything quite like I would want for those hooks. I went to Lowes and looked but didn't find much they where to thin.

maybe just throwing it out. you can use the

Jagg Frame Clamps

http://www.setrabusa.com/jagg%20files/jagg%20pages/accessories.html

cut it in half use both ends but idk how the thickness of it might take the abuse

Yea that would work if it was thick enough. From the looks of it though it wouldn't be thick enough.
