steering stem up down movement?

I got new bearing for my steering stem but it will still move up and down on the bearing. I am missing that collar that goes between the bearing and the bolt. Will i have to buy a new collar or can i just put some type of spacer in there. I was thinking maybe destroying the old bearing and using the inner ring as a spacer. Would that work?

i dont see anything wrong with doing that as long as the fitment is correct. :cool:

yea i was thinking that too, the reason i chose the inner ring was bc its the exact same size as the new bearing,

what exactly is the collar for there does anyone know?

i believe its the race for the seal.

yea its the inner sealing surface for the bottom seal....i just replaced my stem bearing too and noticed that the inner race of the old bearing looked a lot like the spacer so it should work decent
