me and my buddy wanna trade engines. his xr 250 and my 300 ex. hes got a 1980 xr with the engine all re-done, and i got a 2001 300 ex. wut would i gain with that engine in my quad? and how hard would it be to put it in? and how much hp would i gain? and wut are the stock hp for a 250 and my 300? they are both stock and engines run excellent. any suggests would be appreciated.

You can try it, the only problem I would see is that the XR250 kicks backwards right? Then you would have to cut the rear fender to accomadate it.

yea, the kick would go backwards and that would cause a problem, but I don't see a 1980 XR250 creating more power than an '01 300EX, plus you would loose reverse, I would just mod the 300ex engine, that would be a lot more pratical, creat more power, and you'd keep reverse

well i see wut ur sayin about loseing reverse. but i dont care, i rarely use it, usually to back out of the garage. but that bike has plenty of power, it catwalks threw any gear and its top speed is just over 70 mph. the age isnt a big deal, everything has been re-done. piston,rings,gaskets,crank,all the bearings. so just picture it as being a 95 or sumthin.
Does anyone else have any input on this?

does anyone know the stock h/p for both of these bikes?
