storage ideas for the 400EX

I am tossing the idea of making some kind of a storage area for the rear of the 400ex, any suggestions or pics to get some ideas.

i have seen some guys use half of their airbox for stuff like tools, plugs, and any other small emergency stuff. no pics sorry

ive seen people use somewhere around 4" PVC piping to create a little storage area that they attach to their front bumper. they cap off one side and glue it, and the other end screws off. its waterproof too :)

yoiu could make a sheet metal container for the back that is bigger too if you wanted. then bolt it to the existing hardware for the plastic tube in the back. i think that would be pretty nice to add to a machine. steve

chet .. first of all hows the HMF pipe u bought from me ? second ... be fore my 400ex got stolen after i sold u the pipe ( got my 400ex back - 8 months later - but thats another story ) i bought a lowes 4" PVC pipe with end caps , attached it to the front of the atv behind the bumper .. worked awesome for me ,, i was able to put in all my tools ,plugs, and also a can of fix-a-flat !

the quad is running fine with the HMF pipe, I did the Uni FIlter and rejetted it, runs fine, how did you secure the PVC pipe to the front bumper, was it the yellow 400ex quad that was stolen, and did you find it or get it back

it was the yellow quad and yes i got it back ... to answer your other question i mounted it behind the bumber using muffler clamps... the ones u tighten useing a flathead screwdriver ...

While putting the plastics back on ,after my 450r carb install, I made a cool little discovery that might apply here, as a extra storage spot. So I thought I'd share it with you guys, and if it's something that works for you, Great!
As I am typing this, I'm also downloading a video of it, and will be posting it shortly.

this is a 32oz., (one quart) plastic bottle that originally had a diesel fuel additive in it.
Many various oils, automotive fluids, etc. come in this shaped/type bottle, so I'm sure that any one of them with the cap off to the side will work also.

It sits nicely between the side of the carb, and the side body panel. At the front, it rests on top of the OEM plastic panel that is between the frame, and bottom side of the fuel tank.
And at the rear, it sits on top of the frame, and just inside of the seat mount knob.
It is really snug, and does not move at all, and needs no other "tie downs" to stay in place.

It stays right in place, and could be used to carry a quart of reserve fuel on long trails, or you could cut out the side of the bottle to make a nice little "tray/ compartment". (I would only cut it on 3 sides , so that it would have a "Flap" lid, to help keep whatever you put in it, inside.

Yes, I have put the seat on with the bottle in place, and it goes on just fine, it dosen't push to hard on the side panel, OR the carb, and it can not move, or fall out, or fall down on the exhaust!
It literally is a PERFECT Fit !!!
